Any recommendations for electric planer blades

Just had two sets break apart when they went over a knot.

Am I doing something wrong or need better blades.

what you using carbide blades or hss .carbide can be brittle

Wouldn't expect them to break over a knot. Screw/nail. Possibly though usually they just chip.

I was planing new pine with the blades that came with the planer, then a cheap spare set from Screwfix. Both sets ended up like this.

I use trend Makita and deawalt blades.

Very important to clean all the mess out before fitting new blades. And zero them to the shoe properly.

The excaliber ones axminster do are quite good too , I gave up with the cheap ones they don't hold their edge either .

I only use the multipacks from Ebay but never had a problem with breakage.
Could you have been feeding too fast?
1mm should be fine but slow down over knots as they can be stupidly hard.

My 110v Makita will happily take 4mm passes through softwood knktts and all. (Dual blade)

Keeping up with the chip removal is harder.

My Rage2 chopsaw will go through 6mm angle iron easily. On some knots it can really slow down and stops cutting the wood. Incredible.
My mate who recycles pallets avoids the hardwood ones. Cutting nails is fine but the hardwood eats his blades!

I again only ever buy the cheap multi pac's...
even clipped a few nails....
have seen it in the past where on a cheapy machine the blade backing (not the clamp) had a slight nick/bend in it....
so the blades didnt sit flat....

Only time Ive chipped one with out hitting metal was trying to rive too much off an old pine door.

I only ever damaged a blade in a planer like that once. It was a piece of soft pine with an extremely hard knot which was loose in the timber, the blade cut into the knot which twisted in the timber and snapped the edge off the blade
