Putting beams/RSJ's in a garage? TIG Paul?

I was thinking earlier that the ends of at least one of the 6m beams could pick up on the steel that would probably be needed for the door openings.... but then no room for the roller shutters.

Theres lots of ideas, but headroom is the killerfor most.

looks like very expensive option to me.....unless you are using it very frequently... good mobile hoist is not a lot of £££

2m is not wide enough for a vehicle door minimum of 7'6" /2250mm more for a commercial/transit type

personally i would reduce the size by 100mm in each direction, just to be clearly on the good side, if over you may need to take it down

I'm considering door size for a Landy/Landy pickup... I can't drive at the minute due to diabetes and can't drive a "works vehicle" so a bog standard car will do... And with any luck I should be driving again by the end of next year...

I'm currently speaking to the local council too, if I build it to exactly a 30m² footprint or even slightly over they won't mind, it's hidden and the structure outer is being designed to blend in on the sides and rear face with coloured/camouflaged render and the front facing the house will be matching brick...

Black slate roof to completely tie it in with the surrounding buildings as if it's always been there...

That's why I'm hoping to get as much as possible out of the 2.5m, I'm 6ft or 1.8m so that gives me plenty of head room even when thinking

Now I'm getting an idea to run one of the long beams out through the doorway to off-load and just put doors on the garage...
I can make the doors myself and save a blooming fortune on roller shutters

I've been there before, I can't write the words that describe them when they do that but it's definitely not family friendly...

Don't worry I'm doing this all by the book, thankfully I already know an architect, god help me, and there's a couple of engineering firms local that are still running as it seems and do stuff like this, thanks to google,

For a long time i thought i would have a roller door ,the cheapies i saw on fleabay were effectively corrugated horizontal , thin steel ,which i just don't like the sound of ......so i ended up with a free wooden garage door from freecycle ,the pit was a no go as it meant having foundations even deeper for regs,not to mention water.Great fun learning to lay bricks ,my buddy is an ex builder who went into building control (not council)also did plans for me ,nothing like learning from a pro....

Think I'm going to go down the home made door route to save some money...
I can make them secure enough too.
I was considering wooden, but just slapped myself thinking why not bloomin weld a pair together

You have seen my driveway ,hinged doors were considered but dropped because of the space to open ,i do like the wooden garage door ,as you say ,blends in ,bricks and tiles to match house ,no complaints from neighbours ,i changed most of my ideas in the planning stages not after we started......

Might make some doors out of MS and put galv sheet on the outside and inside with rockwool in between to try and keep some of heat in with tongue and groove screwed to the outside and stained to make it look "traditional...

Bloomin nightmare round here, and with the possibility of a "council reject estate" being built about 500 yards away I have to make sure no-one's getting in.
Well not unless they make a racket anyway...

Had to put hinge bolts and mortices on my back door along with the two 5 lever locks cause some idiot was putting the back doors through on the entire row...
Needless to say to get in now you'd have to smash the door to pieces...
He had been sectioned on "mental health" grounds but for some reason he's been let back out
