Die grinder needles

How do others try to keep these finger finding needles under control? Been using a magnetic right next to the job and the hoover.. getting some of them but loads are escaping

you mean the shrapnel that generate when using carbide burrs?..... I try not to use die grinders in enclosed spaces, and you'll find that abrasives in the form of power files etc give smoother edges to shrapnel so dont have the problem.

Was chased out of the house at the wrong end of a sharp filleting knife wielded by OH after I trailed sawdust through the kitchen once.

Haven't made that mistake again .

How do others try to keep these finger finding needles under control?

I avoid using the die grinder on metal at all cost...it's a tool of last resort....and usually I'm pulling shards out of my fingers for a week after use!

Wish I had a bathroom in the workshop!...as a compromise I wear specific "garage" clothes which get washed separately. Also I wear eye protection and use the air line to get the worst of the dust off.

As @Morrisman says get a good vac too...I recently discovered Henry (seen them around for years but never owned one)

Welding jacket and welding gauntlets seems to work fairly well for me.

Still picking the odd naughty intruder out my fingers for days though.

Overalls and proper chemial goggles. Then head to toe airline for me.

I know you’re not supposed to airline yourself but it’s better than the needles getting in dog feet

Vinyl gloves. This is the only way I have found to keep those things out of the skin and I use these tools on a regular basis. They tend to bounce of rather than getting latched on.

Second best thing you can try is simply send them away from yourself to avoid getting covered and then keep a hoover local to manage the debris as it builds up.

When I had to use a carbide burr rapidly realised how sharp the shards are.
Gloves & eye covering essential.
Having sorted out the personal protection, turned to how to pick up the shards off the floor.
Considered purchasing a magnetic door sweeper but borked at the price. In the ended improvised one using some circular super strong magnets (ebay specials) set in a piece of wood, couple of model wheels & a piece of bamboo as a handle. Need to remember to use gloved hand to scrape off the shards. Works a treat
