Never thought I would need one but now I do.
Need to cut apart a welded frame made out of 6mm angle. Access awkward for a grinder.
Ahh I thought. I finally need a reciprocating saw
Considering it will be used once in a blue moon are the Mcallister or Erbauer worth a punt?

I've had a Macallister for about6/7 years and it works well . First job I used it on was to saw up the inside of an exhaust pipe that was stuck inside another one . Nothing else would do it.

I've had a cheap one for years, Powerbase or something, works well. I mostly use it for pruning trees and I think the cheapness is why I like it, I'm not afraid to drop it out a tree, or suck a load of earth into the motor while cutting roots.

I don't rate it on metal though, it's too fast so doesn't cut well. I usually find a hacksaw is quicker and easier.

i have the erbauer one, seen lot's of action at my brother's yard.
if you already have batts might be worth considering a bare one.

Having used one from DeWalt, Makita, erbauer, McAllister I would say the Makita makes the nicest one just feel well made seems to have least vibrations

if you cant get good access with a hand grinder you wont get good access via recip saw

I have a 240v Dewalt one i bought 15+ years ago. It's fierce and has never given me an issue. Was about £120 back then.

Kim's Makita is probably the best option. Good ones seem to last forever. I personally much prefer corded tools.

They are great for wood and trees and roots. Problem with them on metal is the short stroke, makes them a bit useless and terrible for thicker stuff. 90% of the time a hacksaw will be more effective. They also take a lot of space for the very little use it gets. I have a corded parkside one, no real complaints about it.

i ended up getting a loverly 4m 6mm angle iron tyre frame to cut up

recipe saw no good angle grinder better option

cut at the welds on the face until they sprung off and the top piece was just cut off

then reuse the lot on something else instead

Recip saws & portable bandsaws also allow cutting when hotwork isn't allowed or desired.

Yes my thoughts exactly.
I probably could get the grinder in with no guards on it but don't fancy that.

I've got a cheap B&Queue one and it gives me the vibrations in my hands after a while, I wouldn't go cheap on one of these if I was buying one.
