Dvsa will make it an issue at the road side if you get a tug though.Chuck it on the drive axle, age dont not such an issue, and even if they notice it it is just an advisory.
If pulled a steer tyre on a drive axle will probably win you a prohibition, that gets expensive.

As long as it's radials, and the tyre size/load rating matches the VTG, the tread pattern itself isn't of concern.
Haha.
It only reduces your risk of being stopped.
Three of our main o-license fleets still get stopped, regardless of them all being green.
The main difference it makes, is how much attention they pay during the check. As they're green, they seldom get anything more than a quick check over for whatever issue they're targeting.

The unofficial gossip channel is probably one of their best resources.Mot pass rate and roadside checks, if all superb you have an easier life, drop to amber or red and they come gunning for you
They being the ministry, they may stop you but can check all your electronic service records on the spot, so for example last inspection may have noted rear pads low, so they take a look, see new pads and calipers rebushed and send you on your way
They know whos sailing close to the wind, and gossip just like anyone else!
