does anyone have any thoughts on this? on paper it looks great but it is chinese.....

I was looking at one for the D2, if I hadn't sold it then I likely would have bought one, I think I would have used the factory compressor though

I think it's because they have now got a new version called 1234 yf something or other to replace the old r134 which they now deem as dirty?

Supply and demand.
I can't remember the exact details, but the supply reduced.
Some people made good money off it, as the shortage was predicted, so they stockpiled it. Over tripled their money in a year.

R1234 is the newer gas, which doesn't contribute anywhere near as much to holes in the ozone layer.
It is however a licensed gas (I seem to think ICI, but could be wrong), so it carries quite a price premium.
