I wonder if you can still buy re-lining kits?, I remember watching my dad doing the linings on his SII Landy in the 70's, I think I still have some of the copper rivets he used.

Probably, but I have several contacts for doing that, so it's something to contract out.

My boss back in the late 1960’s had a TF21, he had it as a company car from his previous employment & kept the car when he retired. No idea what happened to it after.

My brother & I went to reline some shoes on his CA Bedford one Sunday when he was home, found the rivets were missing, the vehicle had to be got back on the road, so we pop riveted the linings on. Worked fine, outlasted the van from what I recall.

I believe it was done because if the drum was to large a dia it was possible for the brakes to actually run out of adjustment and you could potentially have no brakes.

We used to have matched drums and shoes machined as pairs due to brake issues at mot time.
Lots of drum brakes a work, we see lots of issues, bloody things are a right pita.

i re lined my twin leading shoe front brake on my norton . rubbed chalk on the ferodo linings and spun the wheel applying the brake a bit took it back out and filed the high spots off . did it 4 times till i got 95 percent coverage could stop on a tanner no judder or snatch at all

You should have noted the £300 for each replacement to realise you had been led up the garden path by the coincidence of size.

Years ago we had a Moggy van, front drums were heavily scored so i had a mate skim them in his lathe, We fitted them with new shoes & all was well. Went out for a drive on a hot sunny day & my wife was driving, coming down a long hill we came to a roundabout quite fast & she braked heavily. The drums warped & it was as if there was a heavy machine gun mounted under the bonnet, the juddering was so violent.
Got home carefully & another set of drums were procured, turned out the machinist had gone quite a bit over the limit & they had warped by a large amount, seriously out of round.
