A lot of car systems are voice activated now so the argument about touchy buttons is a bit moot now, no?

So a good old shouting match with SWMBO could have unintended consequences and end up in a ditch.

Right 300miles today that's with actual work in-between journeys 10hr driving.

At no point did my dash make me end up in a hedge.

Also no you can't surf the internet on Android drive or what ever it's called.

When I used to work I got threatened with a disciplinary by my BT boss for not answering my cell phone whilst on several four hour drives. I told him I'd go for a full trade union & HASAW representation . whilst I was driving or up a ladder or in a customers premise the phone stayed in the back of my van switched off . I genuinely think the fool didn't understand the dangers of being distracted whilst driving .

He is very much not alone .

I think the dead phone when mobile is already being trialed by insurance companies .

All to assist the "drivers " who cannot cope with real world situations. Question: Does the Driving test now include the requirement to use ALL available controls in a safe manner? IF not why not?

Just don't hang the rabbit's foot from the rear view mirror as it might ruin the view of the screens and that could be distracting.

Exactly, and I would add: Proper switches and buttons, when pressed, move to a different position; the button is 'in' or 'out', plus the latch/spring detent causes a 'click' which you can feel with your fingertip, so you know for certain.

Do they not have any kind of haptic feedback or audio confirmation that you have managed to press a button?

I did my land rover with all the switches and music controls next to my leg.
Works really well as soon as you know where everything is never have to take my eyes off the road.

I did try a tablet on the dash as my 'head unit' and hated it

Why electric handbrakes? Apart from the obvious sales gimmick / must have it becomes a profit point as soon as the warranty runs out. As the dealer margins have been cut back and discounting has reduced the profit margin the poor old dealer has to have some form of income.

Ergonomics. You don't have to route a thick cable to a large lever somewhere near the driver.

Also it can serve two purposes, on the Range Rovers supposedly if you pull it while moving it tells the car you need to do an emergency stop so it slams on all the brakes to stop as quickly as it can. Not just a simple handbrake.
