Will Windows 10 end up like Windows 7 where there is no longer any support/updates for it? Wondering if it's worth throwing in the towel now and upgrading the pc or hang on until the death.

all it means is your machine is not compatable to run windows 11 by there terms dosnt mean it cant though

is windows 11 that important to force a massive upgarde at cost

no not really

windows 7 and sp1 and 8-8.1 is still a viable machine operating system as long as your happy

as goes for anti virus firewalls all you have to do is upgrade those just make sure they run with your operating system installed on the machine

You can make most pcs run like a dream on a modern Linux install. There's flavours for pcs of all ages. If I didn't run AutoCAD I wouldn't bother with Windows on my home pc at all.

I have moments when I'm ready to run Linux full time, but then Lightroom

I would pay for an alternative if it worked, but nothing open or closed source even comes remotely close. The push to cloud based is making me look every now and then but the classic desktop versions are not going anywhere (yet)

I assume it won't run under WINE?

Even on the fastest machine I have access to it is barely functional, if it manages to run.
The rumour is that this is deliberate, I think it's because of the complexity of the program and because I have 150k photos on it

If it does what you need it to do at a speed acceptable to you then I would recommend waiting and sticking with Windows 10.

I think windows 10 peaked about 2 years ago, since then they have continued to add tat and remove useful features. The more your PC does that you don't need/want it to do the more electricity it uses, but we are to blame for our energy use.

I wouldn't worry about it, there'll be a couple years of windows 10 support to go at least and by then the hardware required to run 11 will be more accessible

Windows 11 is fine, quite like it but I wouldn’t bother using work arounds or upgrading just to get it.

Win 10 is fine for now, when you upgrade the PC for other reasons it will be the obvious choice then and well established.

as a technophobe Im running windows 11 and its fine, for just browsing the net, and my netbook is very basic, 2 or 3 years old and that was £150 new. and I can still connect my phone to it which predates todays modern smartphones (which I might have mentioned before )

We have a couple of machines at work running 11 practically since release. Nothing wrong with it that I can find now the browser issue is sorted….

stick with windows 10 as long as you can

win11 looks terrible... so by the time you have to upgrade windows 12 will already be out, or they'll have sorted windows11 out enough that an upgrade won't be so bad :-)

I still run Windows 7 with Firefox Bob...the secret is turn off all auto updates and keep out of porn sites and you will still enjoy the simplicity of life

it still updates the same as goes for windows auto updater i dont use

firefox updater it can be set for auto update but i have mine off but i have 2 firefoxes installed one is a tester for the new updates the other updates when im good and ready

as goes for bad sites well have a good firewall is my opinon

im happy with 7 so i aint upgrading it then again i dont want windows 10/11 or even 12 they really can stick it where the sun dosnt shine for me

they stopped releasing new updates for win7 a while back, there's no more to come now

I still use it on some stuff... prefer it over 10 tbh

i hate onscreen things as i like to see the desktop and have my own screensaver better than windows

winborg has always been a good operating system no junk just what you need on your pc

ive had it on a laptop and really didnt like it

its not the same it dosnt look the same and certainly dosnt feel the same

ive also played with it at ccl computer shop the sales staff didnt like me with what i had to say about it

in end i ripped it out of the laptop fitted a new hard drive and down graded found other alternative drivers to run it

it run just fine with alternative drivers

I had to tweek the look of win10 quite a bit to get it how I like it.... still prefer the look/interface of win 7

could probably tweek it more and it would be better... but can't really be bothered to be honest

I hate Windows 10. But keep forgetting to get the Windows 7 skin installed.
