Doing a bit of welding under one of the vans today and thought summer had come early...once my mask had filled with smoke and my side was getting a bit warm i knew different

I am just grateful it never went through to my pee bag which is just a bit more to the front, it might of put the fire out a lot sooner though if it did

I do that under a motor and inside if it’s near. Bits you can’t take out easily

I remember in my silly youth, doing an emergency repair on the notorious Mini electric fuel pump, which was housed under the rear subframe, using a lashup, bare bulb, extension lamp. The hose slipped off and I was drenched in petrol, watching helplessly as the fuel splashed onto the bulb and evaporated. Obviously I wasn't engulfed in a fireball. Crawled out, as the backend was up on ramps.
That image has stayed with me for 40yrs. Frequent flashbacks

who knew... Rab C Nesbitt was a welder......so many holes in his T shirt it ended up looking like a string vest

I highly recommend Some Fire resistant overalls and a leather jacket

Be careful what you wear when welding. A guy I work with set his overalls on fire like that with a grinder. First thing he did was try to pat them out with his hand but the melted material stuck all over his hand and burnt him quite badly.
I bought us flame resistant overalls after that.

Used to do this thing with kids at school -

Would blow up a balloon. Just a whiff of a flame and it would burst.

Then you fill one up with water and hold it above a child's head and hit is with a much fiercer flame.

Can go for as long as you dare, but it demonstrates the principle well.

I'm not sure weld spatter would work the same... Probably best not to test it, but you may have been lucky.

rab went to the doctors one day and said doc im sh...ting like chips doc came out with a big pair of scissors god what u going to do with them cut 6 inch of your string vest
