I reckon I get a letter every couple of weeks, bin them all as I have no interest in selling to a developer. When the time comes, if it comes at all(depending on what my children end up doing) I would get planning myself. I’ve done it before and tripled the value. Never sell an option. I hope at least one of my daughters comes home and does something here on the farm so will not get developed for homes.

at one time it was pretty difficult to get a mortgage on land while you was building or wanting to build yuor own property

i dont see these devolopers offering to subsidise a build instead they really want to fleece the land make there own profits by holding onto land and selling at inflated prices

i know someone and ive given advice too that could build 30 houses but there more interested in high price houses but want to do a load of damage in doing so

theyve been knocked back and im glad it happened

Yes, as long as you don't use lead shot and you dispose of the remains in an environmentally friendly manner rather than burning.

Planning is a contentious issue, us old gits are living longer and want to remain where we are, kids are all growing up and needing housing and there are thousands a month being washed up on our shores also seeking shelter. Something has to give and you cant keep increasing the density of inner city housing, that only leaves urban sprawl onto the greenbelt. Every man and his dog turn nimby when it comes to planning so nothing happens for years, councils end up falling way short of new housing targets so the big boys come bowling in and build a town next to a town, normally winning it on appeal because the council have failed to provide. If the councils all did their bit instead of pushing it down the road this wouldnt happen, I have always thought the extra housing should be evenly distributed around every town/village.

Company I work for have bought land close to a few of the factories on spec, both brown field and not very nice areas but they would rather buy "in case" neither have been developed and one sizeable was bought 3 years ago.

There was also a bungalow which formed part of the perimeter fence at one site, company went in with an offer year on year, the shrewd dude played the who blinks first game for quite a while and made an absolute killing in the end.

The core of the issue is that we've not built enough housing since the late 60's, and with people living longer that means you need more housing still. Right to Buy should have never been allowed under the conditions it was implemented with, but that was a bribe.

Other unrevoked laws.
All males over the age of 14 are required by law to practice longbow for at least two hours per week.

And apparently if you live in York, it is permissible to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow.

Just make sure it isn’t on a Sunday.

As a lad l was always told that land developers were the drop outs who failed the personality test to become an undertaker, and that I should work hard at school to make sure I didn’t land up the same. Does that mean my Dad thought I didn’t have the personality to be an undertaker? I wonder….

My family home has a large plot. It’s a Victorian house which we own 5 gardens across, also right near London. We’ve had multiple attempts with developers but on different occasions it is always one neighbour being greedy, which led to the same issue with lacking access. The last time the developer paid to have a large tree out and some other works done to try and prevent the application being refused.

This last developer came knocking on the door I’m sure and spent a lot of time round the house. I think that makes the world of difference because we’d get at least one letter a year which can sometimes seem really outdated like you’ve said.
