Yes, a series two steering column and no seat belts concentrates the mind. I never did get the single circuit drum brake system to do much. The middle pedal was a bit of a token item really. On the bright side I can still double the clutch

The series 2 Minor I had, I fitted Wolsleley 1500 front brakes to, that was a really good mod as they were a direct fit & gave you really good brakes. Needed them with a lightened & balanced Sprite engine.

Round these here parts of North East London, the clear winner here (by a cuuntry mile) are those proponents of the 'pop and bang' remap!

These 'bad boys' spend out good money ('cos they live with their Mum), to waste fuel and disturb the peace with their 'machine gun' sounds, driving around to make noise, in their GTA illusion of reality.

You're not wrong there. And the ******* prats that hammer down Wood Street at a good 70 with open exhausts. (20 mph limit)

That's it really isn't it - old age and forgetfulness causing grumpy OAP-itus.

Stupid speeding, noise, traffic cutting up, deafening the neighbourhood etc always been stupid, but other than that . . . enjoy life.

Sure there's more one then one neighbour of people on here that can't understand the preoccupation to spend time in shut up garages, sheds, workshops, grinding, hammering, milling and machining, never mind welding, when all they want to do is enjoy their peaceful back garden in the sun.

I smoked around for a couple of years until quite recently in a green MK4 2.0 Golf GTi. Smoked was a about the right word too. A loaner from my BiL. It was the most un-GTi GTi imaginable and totally stock. It screamed "dad's taxi" rather than boy racer. Sills needed doing.

I gave it back and he scrapped it via Redbridge for about £300.

Glad to be back in a Ford now though.

I have always liked looking over and been interested in the engineering that goes into custom cars,hot rods,kit cars and anything with a silly engine fitted. Cant get my head around what the kids do with modern cars, like with the wheels looking like they are about to fall off and all the unnecessary noise from dump valves etc, most of it is pointless and some of it downright dangerous.

That's when the Chav stuff started to become a nuisance. They all fancied their chances, they had none and I never rose to the bait, nothing to prove.
I still think all the "slammed" innit bro stuff is ***** driven by people with no vision. Sorry if this offends some.

No problem with boys & girls modifying their cars (or bikes) quite like the engineering involved in some, same with detailing, I keep mine clean.... a bit too clean according to my mates had a few quick cars & bikes myself but the moto that sticks with me and a lot of my mates is "30 is 30", see a lot of cars getting annoyed when I trundle through 30 zones at 30 mph. They sit on my tailgate or back wheel, depending if I'm in the pick up or on the bike, then we get to the 60 limit and they do 45??

I had a woman roar past ina. New Audi rs6 this morning

Flew down the main road(3mile long hill) and I just just see her tail gate everyone

She pulled in to the industrial estate one roundabout before me and had used loads of fuel but didn’t get herself anywhere…

Personally I hate tailgaters more than poorly modded cars

I saw one the other day, think it was a Golf, with purple anodised rims too wide for the low profile tyres, huge negative camber and lowered of course, it looked like the whole car was squatting down for a poo.

I was really surprised when a woman got out of it, I thought only boys ruined their cars like that.

It's hard to tell who is driving, as you can usually only see the top of their head through the window, so low do they sit. I'm not sure if lowered seats are a 'thing', or if they take them out altogether and sit on the floor.

Seriously, how can you drive when you can't even see over the top of the steering wheel?

There must be some sort of meeting near my little village mid week, as I used to see/hear hordes of them passing through on Tuesday evenings.

The more recent car trends that always make my chuckle are...
1. Any of the daft French chavvy-chic rag tops.
2. Freelanders and Audi TT's. To me mostly pointless, impractical vehicles that are more styling exercises and marketing at the expense of being a good vehicle. I can't help expecting the driver to be a Hairdresser

Never got the poorly modified scene. Had bikes and a defender 90 instead. The bikes would wipe the floor with anything and the Landy made sure that when all the lads and their mrs were getting moved on from car parks and gateways, I was left in peace down the beach.....

Local chavs organised a “cruise” (I thought that’s what George Michael got in trouble for?) years ago and the usual array of tatty Saxos and 106s were in attendance. An older bloke pulled in with a mk3 cortina loping it’s brains out on tickover. Cue the local know it all’s telling him all about how he needed to tune it innit. When he left the police were marshalling the exit and making sure no one did owt daft. Copper must have been a petrol head because he had a quiet word through the window of the cortina and then stood back grinning as it went sideways out of the gate with the dirty great v8 under the bonnet on full song. Lot of red faces left in the car park
