Dust Extractor filter fitting.

I've got one of these free standing dust extractors:


I've also got a fine filter for it. I thought it was a good idea for cutting mdf on the hoe made CNC.

My question is: How am I supposed to fit the thing? The inner ring of the filter sits inside the top of the extractor, so theres nothing holding it on. it didn't come with any fittings and its not mentioned in the manual. What am I missing?

I've got an Axminster trade (now 'Professional') one and the fine filter sits atop and has a long sprung metal band to hold it on - also the bag beneath:

Does yours have a rotating paddle for cleaning the baffles inside the filter..?

This maybe explains it better, the filter sits inside the rigid ring of the base so there’s no way to clamp on it. There isn’t a hole in the top for a nut and full length bat]r lie some of the other types use.

Poke it in the hole and stick 3 self tappers through the lip.

Not sure that’d work, its drilling into rubber and when the fan is going its trying to push the filter off so air leaks around the join. You could attempt to counter that with a bead of silicone as well but it’s still iffy.

Could I get fitting instructions for the FILTER CARTRIDGE SPA 1200 / 1702 (0920016529) . It is not clear to me how it is fixed to the SPA 1200 dust extractor - the diameter of the base of the filter is smaller than that of the extractor so it sits inside the rim and cannot be clamped on.

Well here’s my solution - I cnc cut a ring which is a tight fit on the base to give more surface area and a very thick bead of poundland silicone all round.

Will it work? who knows.

You could secure your plywood ring with some countersunk self-tappers (or panel pins if it is too thin for a screw) into it from the inside of the black plastic part, Like Pete.'s suggestion but from the inside facing out. If you cut a similar ring and secured it in a similar manner to the blue filter (from the inside, going into the plywood), you can then clamp, cleat or bolt the two rings together to stop the filter lifting. It would raise the filter by the thickness of the ring, but it looks to have adequate spigot length for this not to be a problem.

To be honest I was planning to cut a stack of them, glued together and then self tappers with penny washers through the filter rubber from the inside out. Once you take the dust bag off you can access it from below. But when i did a fit check with the ring I had this idea.

Had a poke at it a day later and it looks like the schmoo has went off all round and made a seal so I'm calling it good - till it breaks.

Took the bag off the bottom and the silicone has come over the inside edge of my added flange so its sealed the underside too.

It certainly didn't pop off when I turned it on and the old calibrated mk1 hand test didn't feel any leaks.

Still waiting on a reply from metabo support on how it ought to be done...
