Progress No 1 floor standing pillar drill

I have been offered a Progress No 1 floor standing pillar drill for £400. I have been assured it works well with no issues though it is rusty and looks uncared for from the photos. Is this a good price? It was 3 phase but has a .75 HP 240 volt motor fitted now. Photos attached. Thanks in advance.

well over priced its not even geared 200 tops and thats being generous providing the bearings and quill arent worn out

Sold my fully restored and converted to single phase bench mounted progress 1 for less than that last year.
A good solid drill, but for me the drawback was lack of a backgear, meaning it didn't go slow enough.
It's a heavy old beast to shift too.
As a project, and if I really wanted one I wouldn't want to give more than £200

Advice from the south = buy it

Advice from the north = far to expensive, could have got a better one for half the price

My Advice = if you like it, want and have enough sheckles then buy it

Play with it and sort out any issues you find. Everyone can say this is worn and that’s wrong, but until you know what it means, it’s meaningless

I'm pretty sure it would not make £400 on ebay (I was scanning eBay for some months during the winter for a pillar dill). I'd say more around the £200 mark tops.

I feel you would find a better condition one for that money, remember they are difficult to move as very heavy so it can have an effect on how easily they sell

Well, advice from the south is it’s a bit full on the price. There’s a lot of work there as it looks like neglect rather than just sat in a workshop. I always play the long game and wait to punch on a good value bargain.

I was looking for a Bosch POF500A router but the price has risen recently for some reason.

Among the stuff I rescued from the dump was a full box of accessories from the very router.

I then saw a router on Ebay but without any accessories so I popped it on my watch list.

The seller immediately gave me a very good offer to buy it, so I snapped it up.

It will now fit the router table I also rescued from elsewhere!

Advice from London - It's too dear in the condition it's in. The Model 2GS is a much better drill, back geared and with reverse. Great for tapping as well as drilling largish holes.

Not that heavy actually, I carried mine out of the auction house on my shoulder. I was many years younger then I grant you.
I added a swivel yoke to the top of mine so I can fit my home made honing attachment, when not in use it sits in the corner. As for the drill, it is a tad fast, perhaps I should look at fitting a 3 phase motor and inverter? Hmmm, another project..
