I've invested in Hive ones which can be monitored and set via an app.

Pretty sure they'll pay for themselves pretty quickly.

I'm using a database to store all the heating parameters, the heating app reads the database to set the temperature. Tools to edit the database are nice and easy as follows, and if need be, I can access this remotely via the phone as per hive/nest. Difference is each of my thermostats cos about 2 quid including box

I just bought 3 tonne of pellets, they have been £295 a tonne for ages, just gone up to £325 a tonne.

Mistimed as ever - I'm down to the last 100l, so had to order today.. Just 500l to hope it doesn't go even more stupid.

Where did you get a wireless TRV for £2?

Mine are wired, plus I was stretching thermostat a bit They are temp sensors used to decide whether to turn an IP relay on and off, which in turn turns on the actuator for a UFH heating zone.

Got a quote for 78p on Sunday. Still have half a tank so will just wait and see. Guaranteed if I buy now it will go down before I've used half a tank, or if I don't it will go up. Cest la vie
We are lucky enough to be able to afford it for the moment, so I can't be constantly price watching. Does me more harm than good.

Just had an email from Utilities warehouse informing me that our electric bill is likely to go up £100 a month,as is our gas bill, from April. So £200 worse off there, will have the same,but worse at work. Looks like that’s the end of my workshop,I cannot make ends meet, and that’s before the inevitable material price increases. Soon to be packing shelves at Tescos……

Our energy Direct Cebit has been changed from £128 to £249 per month. Ouch!

The bit that boils my pi$$ is the standing charge. At least they could supply you with a big tub of Vaseline whilst they ream you for not using the electric. Why should the standing charge increase? The infrastructure is already there.

It is absolutely crazy. I got an offer for a fix in January from Scottish Power which was more expensive than the price cap.

I mulled it over for days but in the end I went for it, looks like it is going to pay off.

Scottish Power exclusive fixed March 2023 B1.
Electricity: 22.39p per kWh and 17.74p daily standing charge.

Gas: 6.077p per kWh and 17.74p daily standing charge.

All fixed until March 2023 and then the problem starts all over again.

So that's 439 gallons bought in Oct 2021. Just checked and I'm down to 100 gallons now.

Lights left on, heating left right up here. I despair at SWMBO and my lot here.

Just about to order another 2000L.

Someone check my maths please!
End of October I had 2000 litres /439 gallons.

Down to nom 454L / 100 gallons.

So in effect, in 4 months 1546L of heating oil used on CH & DHW.

That's £248 a month based on the previously paid 64.25p/L in October.

If it were at the new 92p/L it'd be £355.58 per month on heating oil.

That's sobering. I think I'm in the lead on here in that case!

Tbh it's probably worse than that as the tank wasn't completely empty in October when I had the 2000L.

Had an email from British Gas yesterday informing us of predicted costs for coming year. Luckily we already pay way more than needed (have done for years) so will only have to add an extra £10 per month.
What bugs me is the increase in standing charge going up so much. I can understand they have to pay more for the energy so need to pass that onto the customer but surely the admin costs remain the same so why such an increase in the Standing Charge

The powers that be over here, are carbon reduction crazy.
Many places have been made off limits for drilling, and production and distribution projects have been shut down.
In the last year fuel prices are up 60% and fertilizer prices are up by 300%.
I think that things are just starting to go bad.

my gas and electric combined are currently £46 a month, I'll worry about it later when it goes up, but I guess its a case the more you use the more you pay, but I'll be sticking with my inefficient 40+year old boiler for a bit longer.

I could not agree more with you Compo. It is ludicrous, especially when it is the regulator that has set the standing charge so high. So much for protecting customers. We are being well and truly shafted and can do Jack about bit.

Don’t even joke , I remember back in the early 90’s there was a big charity raising money to send wind up powered radios and torches to Africa so they could listen to the world .

Won’t be long before we start asking them to send them back to us
