I was using anvil today, simple use, dressing notched corners that get slightly distorted while using tin snips. Having this solid base makes for a better finish.

I've not had this anvil for long, I sometimes wonder what I did in the past without it??

Good idea about the sheet steel 'grease sandwich'.

If you lash a 8 foot spar to the anvill to make a long lever or use figure of 8 sling & spar /scaffold tube and use the grease plates you can move incredilbly heavy gear over concrete floors .

I've even been known to wallop some big hilti bolts in floors to give extra leverage or for anchor points when moving heavy stuff .

On my own I have lifted a 5 mtr x 10 inch ( size ?) H section girder from outside off the front garden for some 35 mtrs to inside , raised it with levers and lots of engineering bricks right up through the ceiling space to re place a load bearing wall . I used 24 inch tyre levers and a 2 tonne hudraulic bottle jack, Once in place and after putting a bed of quick set mortar on the top side I tightly jacked it up to the upper wall base then built the piers in the engineering bricks .

the amount of replies this ones had you could move a mountain didnt know it was that dificult to move a bit of metal
