I love amazon, as an independent toy retailer we get lot sof customers that buy from us because they had bad value for money or toys delivered late, the first things that come up in search are usually more expensive than our stuff so it is a help to us.
Amazon's search has become essentially useless because the results are full of pages that have basically been hijacked by, mostly, Chinese vendors. The pages are flooded with text not visible to the user but which is masses of related brands and model numbers so the search pulls those up. Try searching for a Honda generator, for example.
I’ve picked up quite a few items (mostly hand tools) at crazy prices over the years. Just last week I paid £29.40 for a set of 11 Elora 205 Whitworth spanners. The only “problem” is that I didn’t actually need a second set of Whitworth spanners!

I think they have already killed ours.
I have often little option as non of the local shops stock much, only thing I managed to buy locally last week was Plywood and roof batton, Trims and Lamps i have to order in Via Ebay as To order only locally.
Recently quoted 8 weeks for a part by the proper route but got it on Ebay a few days later?
One thing I have seen is places closing and the stock appears on Ebay further eroding any margin of profit for the existing retailers.
The town I am from originally was thriving but now its just full of Wine bars and food places since the council built a retail park and killed it all off. One interesting point the Town centre supermarket I was told Tesco Own the lease and leave it empty so you have no choice but use Tesco, they sold wall paper until the local wallpaper shop closed then stopped, its like they systematically destroy places so your only option is Tesco or on line.

I don’t ever use Amazon, it seems he’s trying to take over the world, there’s tumbleweed in town centres now, they’re just full of pound shops and pawn shops.
And Bezos has the audacity to publicly boast about how little tax they pay here in the UK, not that I blame them for trying to pay as little tax as they can, it would be great to have that option, but they could at least do it quietly.
And as an employee of them people are just slaves, they stop short of beating them with a big stick.

I like Amazon, prime is worth it for the streaming, some stuff the wife and kids watch
We get things like cat food and ground coffee on subscription, cheaper and less faff than carrying big boxes from the supermarket
Had some good deals on stuff and the convenience is nice, I got some Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers fir £70 for the office, try finding them for less than £100 anywhere else

High streets were dying well before amazon really took off, the big killer was the rents and rates skyrocketing (at least round here) and the out of town shopping centres (Lakeside, Bluewater, Braintree shopping village, Harlow shopping areas to name 4 within an hour ) that were making shopping an activity, at the same time supermarkets started offering more and more, then as the high street started to really roll over in comes online shopping, then once online is heading up, amazon and ebay etc come in to kill off the lasts of it. My local high road is basically chicken shops, other takeaways, used car fronts and more take aways.... The others in the local main town is lots of charity shops (as the rate reduction for the land owner is amazing, something like 80% less rates if its to a charity
Charity shops full of the stuff everybody bought online but didn't really need.
And round here often so over priced its cheaper to get on amazon...
