mother ordered some heater parts a couple of weeks ago and no goods showed up , seller gone silent

wondered if theres any members in clitheroe BB71EE could tell me if the business is still operating -wont post it up on here not sure of forum rules , if his shop open i will drive up and take the money back

Did she pay on credit card? If so and it’s over a certain amount you may be entitled to compensation.

Google Maps any help? Iirc, you can search by business name? It might give you an indication of whether the premises look 'abandoned/closed'?

When I had a similar situation I used google streetview to identify a neighboring business, then called them and asked if they had seen any sign of life,

*Never* use debit card for purchases, online, phone or in person! Any money taken, is gone. If the shop mistakenly adds two or three zeros and then shuts up, your not getting it back. I have been struggling to convince my ageing parents of that fact, yet they have a purchase problem not too different to yours.
My debit only gets used for withdrawing cash.

yeah not sure £70 would be covered by a credit card anyway

found the guy on fb and joined the local fb group...will see i can shame him into doing the right thing

It used to be £50 and upwards, not sure if it’s changed though.

Get your mum to have a word with her bank, when Thomas Cook went under we got the car parking back with charge back. This was paid on debit card and not covered by ABTA.

Try Action Fraud (https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ ) they are there to deal with this type of thing. Good Luck.

you can get the bank to do a chargeback on a debit card transaction

The number of people I’ve known who refuse to use credit cards, they prefer to pay their way, they don’t like borrowing, credit cards are a rip off etc etc..

I use mine for everything, as it covers any ripoffs, or scam, losses etc, and you don’t pay interest if you pay them off on time, and you will also find the stuff you buy is insured for accidental damage or loss.

Last year I put 15 grand or more through my card, and paid 6p interest over the whole year.

I forgot to pay last month. The minimum payment gets done by direct debit but I got an interest charge of £25 for three days late. I never do this as I never pay late. I rang them up and said would they mind refunding as I normally over pay slightly? No problem they said and credited it on the next statement.
