Bought a generator, recognise it?

I have agreed to buy a gennerator, non runner, does anyone recognise the engine? said to be Yanmar but suspect it is a Yamachingy, said to have a lot of blowby and non starting, the seller has replaced the starter solenoid and fitted a new key switch, thought it was worth a go for £60.00 as I was looking for a home standby.
Now thinking it looks a lot like a Pramac P6000?
Anyone taken one of these engines apart? rings?

Start by a compression check.

Is there diesel coming out the injector when you unscrew the pipe to it, on cranking ?

the last one I did u had to splitbthe lower 1/2 of the motor to do the rings.....there's no sep cyl barrel...
the gasket and ring set was less than £30....hahha....chineseum steel/cheese for the rings...might be better now....?

Genny was delivered today, delivery was included in the price! looking on ebay it does seem to look very much like a Pramac P6000 or P6000s but looking on generator guru parts section I cannot see an engine listed with the same rocker cover.
Tomorrow I will buy a battery and see what works and what does not! it has been got at by the seller, he has fitted a rebuilt starter motor, new ign switch, fuel filter but has removed the fuel pipe that Tee'd off the supply to the pump and I think went to the injector leakoff pipe, he was told it was not reqd. what are your thoughts and would it have had a restrictor to prevent all the fuel returning to the tank? my engine is the right picture. left picture is a Pramac P6000s from ebay, said to be a Yanmar engine.............my fuel tank has a 2013 date.

In my experience, all standard diesel injection systems require a return to the tank from the leak off rail.

It still has a return to the tank from the injector but is now missing the pipe that went between the feed and return, marked in red in the left picture,

Lots of diesel in the overfilled oil, injector is spraying but is it atomising under pressure? and it is a Yanmar L100N 5EL2C9HAPM, Off to CAE diesels with the injector and pump tomorrow for testing,

I'd just check the injector. If you can unscrew the pipes, and restablish the injector out of the cylinder head, a glass bottle over the body, on cranking you should see the spray, if it drips the injector nozzle is knackered, spray patterns vary.

When you bleed it up are you getting any air in the diesel, when you crack the injector ?

In my experience 90% of simple diesel engines not starting is caused by air leaks in the fuel side.

It bled out really easily, I took a video of the spray pattern, but cannot work out how to get it out of my phone, looked ok BUT no smoke from exhaust, plus oil looks to be full of diesel, I suspect it is not atomising the fuel under pressure and is just flooding the piston, OR the rings are knackered, it has compression but I cannot check how much, engine kicks on the rubber mounts as it cranks over,

With that 45-deg slash cut style enclosure and the L100 engine, I'd be thinking thatis a genuine Pramac P6000 from a few years back (as that canopy designs superceded a while ago).
10hp motor and 6kva, 4.8kw peak claimed output when new.
Pretty decent little sets, but biggest market for these small diesels is Tool Hire Firms and Contractors - so they do tend to have a hard life, get knocked about and used by people who don't owner, so don't take care of it.
At 60-quid though (closer to 3k for a new equivalent that's not Chinese) - it had to be worth a punt, and might well be worth spending a few quid on.
E.P.Barrus are the UK Distributors for Yanmar engines (or were last time I checked) - so getting all parts fir the engine shouldn't be too hard.

The diesel in the oil is probably caused through repeatedly trying to start and fail, and diesel passing the rings into the sump ?

Are the valve clearances adjustable ?

How does the timing work ? Pinions, chain ?

Just throwing ideas around.

There should be a manual decompressor lever on the head.
The Yanmar starter does struggle a bit to turn this motor over without setting the decomp first (auto-releases) - so if it spins over easily without it, then your compression has gone fishing
