what lathe do you have?

Just a Clarke CL500. Had it for years, and does most things I need from a manual lathe.
I would like a bigger lathe, but no longer have the space after upgrading the CNC lathe.

Personally I prefer optical scales, but they need mounted so they won't get contaminated.
Machine-DRO used to do custom extrusions which kept everything nicely protected, but I'm not sure if they still do them.

Some magnetic scales are quite contamination tolerant, with some just using tape stuck to the bed/extrusion, with the reader head moving over the tape.
It's been a while since I've looked at scales in any detail, so can't remember who used what system. Some of the more expensive systems don't use standard quadrature signals, so you end up tied in to their system.

I read optical was the best. But the Machine DRO kit is magnetic, I will do some more reserach before I dive in!

I’ve fitted five machines with vevor scales. They seem to be sino scales which is handy .
I had my local yodel loose a parcel from vevor and vevor had a replacement to me within a week. Then yodel found it. It was shocking how yodel had abandoned the parcel in their depot and only found after I complained about non delivery

Actually I’ve bought loads of vevor stuff lately
10” three jaw chuck which seems good and a £300 tapping arm that seems the same as machine dro’s £1600 one

Looks like vevor are all out of 3 axis DROs but still showin a two axis. I might have a punt.

For what the cross slide or the tailstock

Tail stock, I did get a 200mm i could use for the cross slide but I will probably fit a proper DRO one day to the lathe
