If it’s TPOd then it has got to do with the council, unfortunately.

There’s a few criteria to getting a TPO and one is that it has to be in general view (or some such wording) so it can be on private property but is of aesthetic value or a particularly good specimen. It may have been part of the planning consent that certain trees were left when OPs house was built. They’re usually TPOd to prevent future interference.

You can apply to have it lifted as they’re not always put on according to the rules and also things change.

Whatever was planted there previously , I don't think anyone will be recommending planting ash trees anywhere in the foreseeable future , as 'ash dieback' is running amok at the moment slowly killing all of them when they become infected. Surely it's more sensible to plant something like hornbeam , that presently has a long term future, which as h certainly doesn't right now. We have a path running across us and lots of dying ash trees , we have already spent thousands on tree surgeons, I dare say we will be spending a lot more in the future, to keep walkers safe. Ash are renowned for dropping branches when well, but with dieback this is only going to get worse. Yes the firewood is handy.

Bear in mind that Ash grows like stink, I’m not sure about the others. I planted a tiny ash cutting about 5 years back thinking it might be nice and it’s getting on for 20 feet tall now.

I think that's what the idiots in the council did. Not knowing how fast or how tall the damn things would grow.

Now they don't even care.

yeah the same berk that pulls out all council own tpo trees and replaces them as they are damaging the pavement

most of the trees they try planting near main roads always die off the fumes from the cars kill them every time

"Owning" TPO`ed trees is the same as owning a listed building, you may think you own it but really you are only a custodian.

On the contrary causes water shoots that grow quicker and denser than before they were cut typically badly connected so typicall will fail easily

Ours didn't. Left to their own devices they grew thick and split . Falling into the river.

We pollarded every 3 years and they were perfect. Every peg was fishable and the tree was manageable as it had thinner branches and was no where near as tall.

Similar but trees can die. Listed buildings just cost money to repair if they catch fire..

If a tree with a TPO mysteriously dies questions will be asked and checks will be made. Something like an Oak will go on for hundreds of years and probably outlast any buildings.

You can use that to your advantage also. The field behind me floods, but it’s planted with about 50 willow coppice stools which are done on a 5 year rotation. They suck a lot of water just after the coppicing and keep the field dry

Councils could be banned from felling trees without consulting locals

Use case dependent, but not nice on domestic trees.

If you can get proper reasoning to remove a tree they are fine, I never had any issues with councils and tpo trees

But you are not going to get an oak in the front garden on a housing estate. Who's going to be asking questions there has to be evidence now before the police will start looking for evidence.

house builders should be made to buy another plot and replant or plant samplings in my eyes to make a wooded area

they make thousands they should supply a woodland area of the trees in the local area but no proffit is proffit

then by all means put a protection order on that woodland area

by plot of land i mean where 10+ houses can be built not i want my expensive detached 5 houses because i want high proffit on those as some builders will choose to do to avoid the 10 houses buy a plot and plant trees there

so in my eyese that do so well your still buying that land and planting trees so you wont avoid it

My point is they can ask questions but you don't have to answer them..
