NOCO jump packs, any good?

I had an argument with them over an extendable power bar for wheel removal, bought at 10am returned at 10. 30 with the end snapped off, was ****ty hollow bar, misuse he said, how, wheel must have been put on with air gun, what like every wheel fitted at a tyre place, you would think it was his money.

The lad I know tends to go at lunchtimes when they're at their busiest, if they're selling, they won't be interested in an argument with the potential for lost sales & bonus - it's not me BTW, it's a friend of one of my sons who is a self-employed 'mechanic', personally, I wouldn't trust him to make the tea.

We have noco at work in the mechanics section. I was trying to turn over a lycoming flat 6 aircraft engine with a wagon battery and it wouldn’t give more than a half hearted crank. Put the noco on it and it threw it over like nothing, was very impressed

Purchased for Renault Masters and Citroen Relay, if the battery is ‘a bit flat’ it will help them, but if it’s dead it’s a waste of time. Can’t remember which model but it’s one of the bigger ones cos I wasn’t paying for it.

Can’t remember which model but it’s one of the bigger ones cos I wasn’t paying for it.

Depends I think. The one I've got is not a quick charge, there is a quick charge one but it was a lot more and I only have it for occasional use so the quick charge didn't really matter for me as it retains it's charge.

Its not fast though, several hours at least I think (think I left it overnight). That's I think the 70 version.

Has anybody seen any specifications for the a/h rating on these?
Obviously the 4000a whatever's are peak discharge marketing blurb.

I'm wondering if it's feasible to use one to replace a regular car battery?

I have got a couple of things that need a decent 12v supply to run from, Winch on a car trailer, log splitter, hog roasting machine, I would also like a hydraulic power pack that could be wheeled around the workshop to power the bench press, tube bender etc.

I have tried fitting batteries to the trailers but even if you fit solar panels and split charge systems the battery does not last as long as I would like.
Probably because it lives outside in all temperatures and does not get used regularly.

I have looked into just getting a li-ion battery and putting it in a case with a charger etc but the jump packs are about the same price as the components would cost anyway.

I'm wondering if you could just swap the clips for an anderson and use it to power stuff rather than just jump start stuff.
My concern is that the 'smart 2.0 protection' won't let the thing power up unless it detects a partially charged battery.
Plus, could you actually get a useable amount of power out of it for any length of time or is it just designed for a short sharp boost?

My Renault master is always a pain to jump start.
The central locking module and the immobiliser etc have a fairly high Draw and never switch off.
Left unused for any more than a couple of months over the winter and I have problems jump starting it even though I'm using the same methods as I use on much bigger stuff.

The master does not seem to have any low voltage cut out and will pull its own battery down to nothing.
It seems like the protection system of the roco needs to see a certain level of voltage to even attempt a jump start?

Sort of overides all the smart stuff.

Makes sense, I just remove the batteries now if they need a charge and have since fitted an isolator.

I don’t think it would give you 60 seconds before shutting down.

Any idea what sort of current it draws? You could probably run it off a cordless drill battery if you made up an adapter.
