why is it such a pain in the ass doing these on line quotes ,not interested in riding some one else's bike nor overseas riding.
never inc no claim protection etc on these on line quotes.
tried ringing never get through .sorry line is busy try later or they make you wait.
why can't things be simple like the old days full comp is FULL COMP not full of these add on's. grrrrrr

If you are insuring something over 20 years old, try RH insurance. Premiums are nett of all/ any discounts, include breakdown and they have no admin fees or premium rate numbers. It works out for me slightly more expensive than Bennetts, but I feel that RH offers far better value for money. To insure a classic 'bike, you do need access to other transport and they will ask.

Carole Nash insured my TRX850 for £70 fully comp! I can't be arsed ringing round for that much!

When I was ringing round for quotes a few years ago, one insurance company said they couldn’t insure me unless I had a tracker fitted!

Not any old tracker either £500 a year subscription!

Needless to say I didn’t go with them.

Lucky you. You obviously live in the middle of nowhere. My quote for a 125 was £370 after a 20 year break. I live in London. I really wanted a proper bike but the first premium was going to be £2500.

You might find one of those new 250's is cheaper to insure than a 125 as the coke snorting youth's aren't crashing them everywhere!

I used to have a six wheel policy , it was very handy .

four wheels being my car and the other two a bike , the company had worked out that you couldnt be driving your car and riding your bike at the same time , so one policy covered both ... dont think they exist any more though.

I have one policy from Footman James for my 4 old bikes, about £180 a year. Helps I live in a remote rural location with little crime I suspect.

Remote doesn't necessarily = safer/cheaper. A location can be crawling with tourists who often have no idea of driving under the roads type, ergo potentially dangerous to other road users.

I was shafted when I became a born again biker, it does calm down a bit with a few years ncb. Bit that got me was all the extra`s like charging more if you take a pillion, they dont charge more for a car if there is someone sat next to you.

We are fairly cheap up this way for insurance, my pal in Weegieland didn't believe me when I said I was £150 fully comp for the car with business use, he was nearer £500 with similar car and similar driving record and his was only SDP.
Last year I got the Africa Twin CRF1100 after 25 years away from bikes and was expecting to be north of £500, got a pleasant surprise of £317.

Similar story to Hood, 30 year gap without a bike in my life - got an Africa Twin 18 months ago (difference is mine is 20 years old, but only had 15k on the clock and one owner) but very pleasantly surprised to be paying £120 fully comp - and that's with an expensive claim from when the ex wrote off my car and caused a load of 3rd party damage but that will disappear from claims history at next renewal, though I don't expect them to reduce it much further.

well I've finally got it sorted tried another web sight which inc no claim protect.
didn't bother with legal protection or breakdown cover cost £114.61.
thats the cheapest I've ever had insurance.lol

RH insure a lot of classic/vintage cars. The 'need to have a modern daily' seems to be pretty much universal with classic car insurance. I have 4 cars on a single policy with RH, the premiums have gone up quite a lot in the last several years, but this has really been driven by the rocketing market values of old cars.

I had three cars on policy until the last renewal, one of which had been on a storage policy with RH through their various owners since 2002.
The Storage Policy had more than doubled in three years having been static from 2002 until they were taken over.
There is now only one car with them.
The Storage policy has moved to a different insurer for a reduction in premium for the same cover.
The current owners of RH clearly know how to charge.
I doubt the one car with RH will be with them this time next year.

That is at odds with my experience, having two Scimitars, one Scorpio and two K1200LTs on cover with them. In fact the last Scimitar added was £81 nett inc European breakdown cover.

There was certainly a phase they went through under one management that wasn't good, but they seem to be back to their old selves. My only irritation is their ridiculous, nannying security for paying by card.

I just stay with Carol Nash as they seem to be fairly matched...Sometimes paying a few quid extra when on auto-renew is well worth it against shopping around every year and the complete mares this brings.
