Thankfully I only really deal with windows on Listed buildings. The ethos is keep as much of the original as possible and that suits my repair style perfectly.Any Idea of the listing status. My best mate used to work for a restoration company, He says work for EH was a nightmare
Unfortunately not everyone that buys them can afford or bothers to maintain them. The money you'd have to have to buy a place like that... grade 2 listed at a minimum, perhaps grade 1... forget ever being able to afford to replace the windows!
Beautiful though. I appreciate the people who can afford to own somewhere like this and keep it in this condition for posterity.

We’re a few hundred yards from a chateau, the outbuildings (3 houses, barns, stable block) are falling down, and the chateau itself is in pretty poor condition, English owners…

No bricks anywhere, windows were renovated in the last 2 years.Lovely looking place! The wobbly brickwork and windows in the background with a modern spirt level in the foreground makes me laugh![]()

Around the time this was built you found the land and just used what ever you could find or bring with a horse and cart to site, no building regs etc windows are so small as large pieces of glass when unaffordable even if you could find any, most places used oiled skin. Big stones at the bottom larger at the top as its easy, no doubt a rubble infill wall. They often stole materials from other places, I know of a Church that has the wrong roof as it came off another one, all very interesting.Must have been built out of '' seconds '' non of the bricks are even the same size , and Im not sure about the stencilling on the outside either ,,, a bit Lawrence luellen
But a nice project to make gates that will suit , look forwards to seeing the results.
