Not so much global warming that worries me, its the pollution in other ways like plastic , some man made stuff is irreversible, if you listen to any fishermen they'll tell you in they're life time there's been a dramatic drop in fish, all through over fishing harbours around N.Ireland have been hit hard

I am not too clever. But the plastic you can see is not the problem. Is is the plastic in the sea that has been eroded down to micron size - the plastic you cannot see - that has got into the food chain. Sadly as dumb as I am - I think this is the problem.

Well sea level change is nothing new. In Roman times the end of my field was a harbour from which they exported iron locally extracted in bloomeries. Now we are about 9 metres above sea level - so they left in AD430 - not that long in geological time. They also had really quite extensive wine production, which interestingly is actually now coming back - we have two vinyards in the village.

These things go in cycles, unlike Greta who wants us to go ON cycles.

Before anyone gets too blasé about rising sea levels not reaching their doorstep, if sea level rises by even 1m in our lifetimes, it will have dramatic and catastrophic effects beyond getting your feet wet or ruining the carpet.

Low lying area like Bangladesh with a population in the hundreds of millions are going to have to find somewhere else to live. Along with a fair few other populous areas in the shallows. It's not that they will necessarily be flooded per se but the fresh water we all rely on for life will become undrinkable seawater as the water table becomes contaminated.

Greta Thunberg may have succumbed to her own fame but it is her generation that gets to make the best of this mess. And let's not forget, she is quite right; all the climate change Paris Accords, COP26 is just a bunch of hot air. A mechanism to dodge responsibility, kick the can down the road and for greedy global corporations to rake in even more money in the name of carbon.

Case in point: the Amazon rainforest is being systematically destroyed. 17-20% gone and 20-25% is apparently the point of no return. The area could die back into desolate savanna. What did they "decide" in COP26? Nothing. Nothing at all. Blah blah blah. Loggers still logging, MacDonalds are still planting cows, global corp are ripping up ancient forests for a one shot crop with endless fields of soya like there's no tomorrow.

That's a chilling phrase under the circumstances because a few more years destruction and one of these days, there will be no tomorrow...

In that case I like global warming as there is a vinyard in my village too. Also once occupied by the Romans. They also built that long London to Wales rd which is about a mile away

There is a theme and I have noticed. I am, as ever on my best behaviour so I stick rigidly to the topic at hand. I am happy to share my opinions (no surprise there!) so if there is a difference of opinion, the trick is to question where that difference comes from.

Then, all parties understand how, why and what it is that causes a person to hold a given opinion. This is how we learn. I discover (quite recently) that "fume" is a specific phrase which is entirely different from regular fumes for example.

But it is a "trick" I learned from "potholer54" of YouTube fame. Climate change is a hoary old topic and it is almost inevitable that people will have widely differing opinions on the matter. While it is a "trick" it is not intended to trip people up, it is way more dangerous. It makes people question their own belief and that is a can of worms which will raise some hackles.

That is why I find it odd that people wish to enter into a debate but then refuse to actually engage.

You @MattF on the other hand saw this coming in your first post alluding to it being a contentious thread but can't wait to start talking about me. As usual.

Yes, I have noticed a theme, it always involves you for example. Much better for everyone if you were to stick to discussing the topic at hand.
