Are you sure, the last sheet I bought was 2440x1220mm and I fixed it using a piece of 47mm kiln dried

Never saw an inch tape or rule till I served my time. Our {apprentice} main job was to transfer drawings from office in mm into inches for our trades men. I had never even heard of a sixteenth till I was sixteen

all this metric & imperial is a little of topic from the op question i know while we are here what about tyre sizes for instance 225 70 15.

225 tread width of tyre (metric mm)
70 side wall % of tread width (percentage)
15 wheel diameter (imperial inch)

someone must have been really messed up by it all when they came up with that idea

Bench height, 1m. Vice sits on top of that. Height feels "good!".

The only bench I can use ATM is in the garage at my mums place. It has my 6" Record quick release engineers vice mounted on it. The height of the vice jaws from the floor is 44" , exactly the same height as my elbow !!
