I used to work for the AA way back when, you would get jobs like a mini speedo cable to fit and a complete set of 6 volts bulbs wanted for a VW beetle, like you say they were always at home.

Yep, worked Christmas for the AA too.

I called the RAC out a few weeks ago while trying to diagnose as misfire and I as changing different engine and electronic components, the car cut out 100m from home and woudnt restart, and as it was all uphill to get it home, I called the RAC out. this happened at 10am on a sunday so I thought rather than ruin my day I would go to the model engineering club and call them when I got home. I called them at 1pm and the came to fix it 5 1/5 hrs later. when he turned up he was surprised that I didn't want him to try and fix it, I just wanted it towing up the hill home. I did tell him that I was trying to sort a misfire out and he was a fan of older cars so that helped. the towing eye wasnt my car so rather than have his getting the towing frame, I went home and got it. when he turned up I guess he was expecting some grief from me , but its not his fault other people were breaking down on the motorway and they took priority, and while I was waiting at home I did get to see the last 3 rounds of the BTCC which so not such a bad day........ if I was miles from home though it might have been a different story......and if I knew it would take that long to turn up, I would have tried to fix it.

If I hadn't swapped with an Asian coworker who didn't mind working Christmas day I'd be in today, carer, zero hours, having to be available from 7am till 10.30pm but probably get about 9 hours work £8.90 double time, but on unpaid call the whole time, administering meds, personal care (toileting), changing urine bags, Commode ect..

should have tried harder in school I guess..

There's an army of folk out there doing stuff for a pittance because.. well.. it's fruitless doing politics and social justice on forums like this, I hope everyone had a cracking Christmas, and got everything they deserved.

15 years ago McDingleberries opened a branch in a little French village just outside Jarnac in France. My brother lived in Jarnac at the time. Obviously they hadn’t done their market research as their presence wasn’t wanted by the locals…They used to take their dogs for a walk and let them take a dump in the parking lot. Delightful people ,but it did make me chuckle…

We got double time but they worked it so we only did four hour shifts. This meant we received the same money as ordinary employees getting holiday pay. Total crooks and no day off in lieu. I resigned

I volunteered to cover Christmas this year, doing the main day counts as 2 days for the holiday shut down.
It allowed the ones with family to have time with them.

Home starts. Lots and lots of home starts.

"So you guys always work Christmas?"
"Yeah i suppose it could've waited until the new year."

And my last job of the day, she'd abandoned it (unlocked too) and ****** off home because she didn't want to wait.

Well guess who else didn't want to wait and went home..

Good thing they paid me OT for it, didn't get a single tip..

I remember pulling out all the stops to get an engine rebuild done for Christmas as they HAD TO HAVE THE CAR, I delivered it back late on Christmas eve, said for them to bring it back ofter the break for a tighten down, when they brought it back it had done 12 miles, they lived 6 miles away!

Was doing some waterproofing with silicone on Christmas Eve at 4.30pm

He insisted it was done as he was off to Spain, he used his old box and never told us
Iv never worked Christmas Eve and won’t work in a company that want that

It’s only inconsiderate if you have some weird beliefs in a fantasy fairy tale story that has been brainwashed into the population of the u.k. for 2 millennia.

Seriously, think about it.... what we accept as ‘normal’ in this modern educated country is pretty f*****g wierd.

And many of us think Islam is a strange culture.

Ok so I've been working today Christmas Day ....milk tanker driving .
So the only other trucks about today were other milk tankers oh and a home delivery calor gas tanker

Seriously wtf Why on earth would calor deliver on Xmas day !?

Elderly people they couldn't get to last week? I should think emergency deliveries only.

That's a bit out of context. For what it's worth, I agree totally on your point re religion (is that one of the forum's banned topics?), however 25th December is now known as the day when many people in the UK have a day off and try to spend time with family and friends.
No matter what archaic (true or untrue) tale lies in its origin, that's very much the case today so that's why there are people who are miffed in this thread at others taking advantage. Not one of them mentioned religion...
