Stuff you have made today

I bent up some 60mm x 5mm stainless today as inserts for it, it reduces the width of the V to about 25mm from the 33 as delivered, it lets you bend a tighter radius on thinner stuff and also lets you bend shorter distances between bends. Might even make more up to reduce the V width more.

I still have to dress off the tops of them.

I'm surprised that you're OK with that setup... I'd have thought you'd be modifying that rough looking bottom tool to accept a length of 60x60 X form tooling. That way would make it more flexible too, as you could segment top and bottom tools properly... It would transform it from a toy into a proper mini brake, and air bending would be accurate as long as you're centered.

I've got some very worn out bottom tooling but I keep it for bending rough stuff I think that's why you rarely see second hand tooling, as everyone keeps their old stuff so they can butcher it!

And that is the reason I am satisfied with it the way it is

you've got me thinking about modifying mine now, I have a single blade 10mm thick works fine for what it is, but it can be a bit limiting, and I've often thought about making it multiple plates like yours. Then I could make up different formers, radiused bends, square bends etc...... would make it a lot more versatile.

How are your plates held in?, are they just clamped between the two upper carriers, then the bolts clamp them up tight to hold them in place, or is there a notch in the plates and the bolts tighten down onto a gib of somekind? think it would just be clamped directly, but any chance you could take a photo of the fixture / plates the next time you have them out...

I don't have the skills or the tools I have a circular saw, a plane and random orbital sanders...
What would you do? i could cut it with two parallel edges with the circ saw, and get the edges nice, but how would you attach the pieces together with proper alignment?
Wood bothering isn't my forte...

I would cut it with a tracksaw for simplicity, run it through the overhand then hand plane with a jointing plane. Which is done in a similar way to hand scraping/very similar feel.

Lot of guys just overhand it then cramp the living life out of which always leads to a visible join

All done on my old Victoria mill,circa 1950-1970.
Can you guess what it fits to,prizes in the post(Hermes post,that is !).

I never really do steel so likely won't be able to say on that.
I did some 3mm stainless yesterday, full 300mm width and it breezed it, specs say 2mm mild steel so it did better than that.

Here is one I have just done, found the original test piece for the steering rods I make for the Cheetah Cats, it is just brass, the real ones are stainless. Anyway I have been meaning to make up this wee tool for a while so a lump of phosphor bronze into the manual lathe and turn it to a sort of handle shape, bore a hole in the end and chap in the steering rod end and the tool is complete

Impressive,that could equate to 300/6.

Dowels may be easier dont need a special tool just a drill but don't ask me how to get it alinged
