Virgin media issue

We lost TV and Internet Monday morning its only just come back on.
WE submitted a complaint when it went off.
Strange thing is they called us and the only offer they put on the table was to release us from the contract now even though we are tied in for another year?
I just found it strange the bloke didn't have a clue technically he told me they would have to re cable every house in the street etc. It was like he was paid to get me to leave.
Any one else had similar?
The Outage was massive three or four post codes not streets areas.

Ive had issues with VM over internet speeds & drop out, which has taken them nearly 3 years to resolve but your problem sounds very weird.
We had very good service before our recent problems, Personally, I suspect they are victims of their own success, too many consumers & failing to reinvest in their infrastructure.

I thought I saw recently, that VM had finished rolling out there 1 Gb upgrade.

There had been a very large outage for VM tv, down for nearly a day.

Very strange call, I'd be suspicious of what was said. All VM cabling I've seen is in trunking and they just pull new cable through, if it's needed.

In Oldham. We had an outage last week that they warned us about as they were doing work. Our area was the first to have cable as a test run years ago Nynex I think it was originally. Its OK now.

Virgin are converting all their telephone lines to run on their fibre optic system in the near future. My dad has Sky TV, and Virgin telephone and internet, so in January they are sending him a special adapter or connector, to hook up his phone line to the Virgin router.

That will probably overload the system even more.

I live in a small village with BT as the only hard connection to the houses. Is there any sort of ‘dongle’ type internet that works as well as the traditional hard wired systems? ie can watch movies on Netflix with no problem?

I don’t need landline or cable tv etc.

id have said it was down to the main power going due to the storm

which of coarse is beyond anyones control

only you can decide if its best staying or not

but throwing leaving due to this isnt the best things when it could have been none fault

What they dont tell you is if the internet is down you also loose the phone, Traditional phone lines are well backed up so rarely go off even in power cuts
I asked about a Dongle thing so we could carry on but they told me they wont supply one

Sounds like they are all doing it, BT have just sent me a new router with a phone socket in the back, I think the change over is in the new when the old copper wires will become redundant and the phone will only work on the fibre line. The downside is in the event of a power cut the phone won't work, the old copper lines were powered so would work without mains.

yes ive had dual but both are affected by weather and power outages

one was virgin high speed the other was surftime just to keep the phone number

The issue mainly raised in program was thinks like the elderly having the alert buttons or similar that won't work if internet is down. The "back up" that they offer has a limited power time.

I have for this very reason refused to have the Phone over internet for us or the inlaws, it was when we had trouble with the phone line one engineer tried his best to talk me around but the other admitted its no use in a power cut or loss of internet

My dad has the emergency button system, installed a couple of years ago. It gets used surprisingly often, so he would be at possible risk.

My internet is BT, run through their telephone line, and that goes off for about 20 minutes early most mornings, around 2am usually. I have no idea why.
