My vivaro puts on the EML, Service (spanner) and glow plug lights as soon as you go through the service interval.
I guess the ECU sees it as oil out of parameters as it also triggers a oil contamination (or similar) code.
Guess it's all part of the manufacturers trying to stop people playing with things or fixing their own vehicles.

More likely to try to force punters to spend money at the dealers to offset the low profit made on the original sale .

Maintenance lights and warnings are a bit different to EML - EML is generally related to anything that causes a change in the emissions of an engine... It's practically the same symbol on every vehicle from a Fiat 500 to a Bentley Continental.

It should have zero to do with service intervals.

Having said that, some cars have horrific systems for resetting the service lights/warnings - my old Alfa 159, I tried myself with an Autel and a Launch tool, no joy, took it to autosparks, they tried with their array of Snapon, autel and other service tools, no joy, it had to go to main delaership, to knock a poxy 18k oil service light off!

That's what black tape is for.

My Dads VW 2006 1.6 petrol Golf with two catalytic converters is £255 a year to tax it.

I feel i am 100% sure that new age and tech is more faulty and easier to go wrong on much a bigger level nowadays, in the majority of things.

Its pot luck in buying things if its not damaged or working properly. PC tech is just to many things to go wrong and you need to very PC savvy to sort it out.

Cars are rubbish now, these are made for the modern lazy driver who cant even be bothered to put there own lights on or wipers or even park a car. so more to go wrong. and when they need to do it themselves they will be stuffed ha ha.

Now a time ago things were easier and folk were not as lazy. OMG can you imagine having to wind a car window down and up. then put your lights on.

Somebody sends an email, cant read the link in it that i need to sign and send back. No printer either if i could get to it as the thing needs some stupid programme in my PC.

Just post a bloody letter aaaarrrrrrrr

I believe the Americans have a saying " Improvement leads to deterioration" How many times has something been improved and then doesn't do/last as long /is as user friendly as it did before ?

Ford Thames , Up hill foot on the floor in pouring rain wipers stopped completely crap lights that didn't get past the glass. Journeys of nightmares. But now self acting wipers that operate when you don't want them too and smear the screen just as the oncoming car flashes you to tell you that you have just blinded him with you self dipping lights , lights that take the paint off of the car in front and blind any oncoming vehicle. Take me back country rose.

My Discovery 2 supposedly had rear parking sensors but it's beeping bore no relation to how close or far away you were from an obstacle

I know a bloke that put a side exit exhaust on his Deafener - the one through the side of the rear quarter, used it to great effect when the cyclists were swarming around him in London traffic

We the customers are the last in line of recipients for improvements, the 1st being the company...what they mean is improvements to there costings and profits.

I'm not sure it can all be blamed on 'lazy' drivers. I think it stems from our collective desire to buy the latest gizmo which in turn forces manufacturers to design even more unnecessary "aids" to attract the punter which in turn teaches him that to, misquote an old railway advert " let the car do the work" Thus the skill required to drive is drained away.

I'm afraid it's a bit of chicken and egg syndrome. But at the end of the game it's all to do with moving metal off the forecourt .
