More building material price increases.

Just had an update from the merchants we use. Cement is up another 19% from the start of the month, with associated knock on to products like blocks, kerbs etc. Insulation another 10%, and 12 - 18% on plasterboard. Add on the difficulties with supply/shortages of plaster products, insulation, blocks etc etc it's going to be expensive and bumpy for the foreseeable.

yeah covid is having a knock on effect

materials not been made due to lay offs

prices will go up the as the materials become thin on the ground

housing repairs will come to a crawl due to the high expense of materials and houses being built if any will be none existant

I guess from my/our end of the chain the 'why' doesn't really matter. If you struggle to get materials, and when you can they cost a lot more, it doesn't really matter if it's because of lizard people, Covid, an infestation of gypsum mites, Brexit or only people called Brian are legally allowed to transport goods.

The unfortunate reality is that building works this year and next are going to cost a lot more and take a lot longer.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean, so from a practical point of view the 'why' doesn't matter at all. If I/you/we could do something about it then it would absolutely matter and be worth getting wound up about. As we can't then all the impotent rage in the world won't change a thing except to make you unhappy and eventually likely ill from the stress.

It's not some flowery zen nonsense, just self preservation.

Ignoring the why is largely why we are in this situation in the first place, a nation of doormats and it's just gone too far to go back now.

It's easy to say "don't get worked up" but when people are having jobs cancelled because their clients can't even afford the raw materials anymore then it's an issue...the bank doesn't take "sorry, the price of timber is high" as payment for a mortgage.

If this place is so bad , why didnt the thousand refugees / illegal immigrants that flounced across the channel yesterday just stay in France ,,, and all the news could report today was how basic the provided support and services are . This country is going down faster than the Titanic and there seems to be no slowing down in how fast things are getting worse.
