Slugs eat the pellets, die, hedgehogs etc eat the poisoned slugs, die, owls etc eat the poisoned dead hedgehogs, die.
No more natural slug predators, more slugs.

We get loads (perks of living in a stone build 1800s house) - we tried the salt in the places we thought they were comi from which worked for a while but we were a bit worried our cats would start licking it or get it on their paws and then lick it off.

I’m thinking maybe taking away their food bowls overnight to see if that helps, I usually just fling them out whenever I see them …

That's the benefit of beer over pellets in my mind.

Slugs drink beer - drown in the trap with a smile on their face - jobs a good 'un.

If they make it out (maybe just a couple of halfs), then hedgehogs eat a couple, get to that nice drunk state, have a nap and end up waking up the following year feeling a bit battle worn, but most importantly hungry. Cycle complete and everyones a winner!

The little bleeders have just attacked my herb farm! Completely ignored the parsley but wiped out the basil. Put out some plastic cups with beer and got loads of them, but very much "after the horse.....".

There is an unlimited supply of slugs from the forest and they can smell beer. Its a waste of good beer and better to put it in your neighboughs garden as more will come back. Who wants a nasty pot of dead slugs rotting in their garden to clear up?

My slug problem is gone, pellets and sealing the hole worked perfectly, just there is atill the water problem. Also less cats coming into garden May have to put some more down as still see slugs on the path.

The old type contain the human metabolite of alcohol, acetaldehyde/metaldehyde, so technically the slugs are dying of purified hangover. Still have half a tin.
