depends on what size / weight of roll? 15kgs, I'm around 50-55 euros a roll. Not much in it pricewise between 0.8 and 1.0mm. If anything 1.0 comes in cheaper usually. Presumably because they shift more of it.

Inverter Fusion were doing the 1.0mm back in January for £16 delivered, alas that ship seems to have sailed - they do have the 0.8mm at £25 if of any use?

That wire cost me £19 a roll delivered back in August but as you point out, now £25. My brain won't work out the percentage increase at the minute, but it is a lot.

No doubt gas prices are on the increase too.

I just got a bohler roll of 1mm for 26 so not to bad!
I’ve using eco wire in 0.8 and it’s not bad stuff at all and £22 a roll

I always presumed it was because you get less length of 1mm for the same weight.
So it would need less drawing down for them to make it.
I would think it's also easier to make bigger wire as a 5% tolerance on 1mm will be a bigger allowance than 5% on 0.8?

For overall use I would think the bigger wires are used in larger quantities due to industry but all the local motor factors etc only ever seem to stock 0.8 and I would think the hobby sector has tougher competition on prices? Especially for online sales?

Well it hasn't gone up the 200% that steel materials have, so it's not too bad yet...

Esab prices have shot up but looking around all other prices seem stable enough.
I'm trying that Lincoln Arcweld stuff in the S3 next, I've been told it's made in Sheffield by the sales guys, how true that is I don't know, but it runs nicely in my brother's machine. Be interesting to see if it's as nice on pulse as Esab 12.51

It was £2 cheaper last week when I bought it.

If it goes up £2 every week the next roll with cost me 500 quid!

@hotponyshoes you may be right, you've obviously given it far more thought than I did.... don't know what the ratio would be but I'd doubt the hobby industry would even come close to the negociating power of the industrial users though... motor factors and the like are probably dealing more with bodywork etc, so 1.0mm wouldn't be of much interest to the majority of their customers.

Just for comparison with our prices
Esab 12.51 (ER 70 S6) 15 Kg 0,8mm is 45£+VAT
5 Kg is 25£ + VAT

20-25 years ago when I went to get a new roll they asked for 30£/kg +VAT...
Same place I always bought machines, consumables and gas from. I tried to explain to them they were lightyears off normal price but they were adamant they had it right. I didn't argue more, just left everything on the counter and walked away. Never been back since
