what Bluetooth gadget do I need to get to allow me to play music on my portable speaker ?

Old dell probably has a few PCI lanes you can install a Bluetooth board (like installing a graphics card) or just use a usb dongle.

I got one for a quid from one of them pound world/poundland type shops a few years ago. I was originally using it in a desk top pc running XP. Still using it, now in a windows 10 hp desktop.

I always use my phone for tunes on my BT speaker, easy and got a good play list now on youtube

You can get bluetooth on board your wifi card which I would have looked at as you may also be able to uprate your wifi connection at the same time.
