Using customers extinguisher

Set fire to a load of diesel impregnated sawdust in a bandsaw this am,I’d cleared all I could access and had a leather apron near the weld and had a man on fire watch.....but,so the watercan couldn’t reach so my extinguisher was deployed,but was only marginally successful as it was co2, so I grabbed the customers powder one which was nearby,emptied mine,and partially theirs,am I responsible for refilling it?
Mine will get refilled tomorrow under my contracts,should I add theirs,or will that complicate their own procedures? Thanks.

Depends on a lot of things.

Why shouldn't you pay for it, you used it? Their bad housekeeping, or your not clearing the area of flammable materials?

I’d ask them but for what it costs as long as it’s not going to complicate their sla with the extinguisher people I’d replace it under goodwill or whatever

Hopefully you told them immediately - or they now have an empty, or missing extinguisher, in a spot where they expect a full one - so the next time it goes up . . .

When you told them would have been a good time to ask . . . if they have a contract and/or procedures, you could get even more expense if you fill it on your own bat, and then have to replace it, or drain and refill it, as your supplier might not be approved as their supplier.

Firstly re write your rams and tell them why
You should have the correct type of fire fighting equipment but you should also remove all flammables.
I do understand this as I spent 5 years in a timber processing plant that used diesel as a lube!
Powder is corrosive so you should have a clean up plan.
I would offer the customer a replacement but let them choose, it should be a lesson for both parties as they accepted a RAMS with what I feel is the incorrect type of fire fighting equipment and they did little to remove the residue risk.
I am sure Parm will be along in a moment and be able to quote the correct chapter and verse to save me looking it up

I would ask the extinguishers manufacture, I brush it up when one went off in the garage, but you can then refer to the manufactures method in any documents

Vacuum cleaner with exhaust filter.
The damp mop and cloths, with Luke warm water.
With face mask.

First of all if all flammable material can't be removed inform the customer of the risks and possible outcome, if there is a very high chance of fire refuse to do it until it has been suitably cleaned
