Inside the house i have a plus net supplied router, the wifi name is called plusnet.

Then, ive run cat 5 cable (from the plus net box) to the outside office where i have a switch box and a TP link WAP. This provides wired and WiFi access. Outside the network is arbitrarily called Office

Everything works perfectly, but the issue is that i now have two networks at home. If i move from the outside to the inside i have to switch networks, this is now getting very annoying

What do i need to do to make them both work the same ?

Are there any instructions you good folk can provide ?

Can't yo make it automatically select? My phone does it, as I have the same, one office and one home network.

Rename your office network to plusnet with the same password as the original plusnet one. Check that both the plusnet router and wap are on different channels and change one if they are not.

the problem is they dont always switch if they can still get a connection so your left in a poor signal difference even though your closer to a better signal network

that is until it losses signal

Set it as a repeater.

Investigate mesh wi-fi. Not cheap.

Actually not that bad. I got myself the Tenda MW6 3 pack a while ago. £99, if I recall, & they're a good bit of kit. Very easy to setup too.

Unless things have improved I found having two separate networks more reliable.

I did previously have mine both the same but then it kept connecting and staying connected to the weaker router

That's where the mesh gear comes in. Seamless switch over, theoretically, as you're moving around.

your phone/laptop/whatever won't change to a new connection until it loses the first one


to make it work automatically you need proper enterprise level mesh network level stuff.... ignore all the cheap 'mesh' network adverts, they won't do it

Move the indoor router around until its signal is no longer "visible" in the shed/office. That way, the computer will have to find the office network when you're outside the house.
