There was an interesting period in the early 70's when many B licenced G8's saw the approach of their suffixes coming up as full licence G4 callsigns. The regulators were happy to provisionally designate an upcoming G4 callsign for a G8 but you had to pass the Morse test before it came up for allocation or you missed it. Some incentive/reason to take the test .

I seem to recall in those days there were only two people working on amateur licences, and you nearly always got letters signed by Mrs Campbell.

I'm just playing with a £4 inverter module which transforms 12VDC to an HT supply of 50 to 400V which arrived from China yesterday https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292914470534?hash=item4433101e86:g:n9gAAOSwyTtcOGHu.
Works very well, but runs at 75kHz and puts out a lot of noise. Will need to be nicely enclosed in a box with a fan to do useful work I think.

Callsigns were allocated sequentially and you could phone to find out where they were so you could pick something suitable that was coming up, you did not get your chosen callsign until they reached it though.
I went for BTO (Bachman-Turner Overdrive ) not realising the "O" would cause problems in poor conditions, I sometimes had to use the phonetic Ocean instead of Oscar as it seemed more internationally recognised.

My online full training starts tonight

Was supposed to be in a hotel but I will make do locked away from the rest of the household

Couldn't cope with the online training, the people leading it are great, the group isn't for me

So I've booked my full exam for 25th September and carried on with self study.

How hard can it be?

Worst case is you will fluff the exam and that's necessarily a bad thing - you will know what to expect when you do it next time.

Have you been on the RSGB site - they've got mock exam papers etc. there.

Im consistently passing the mock exams with a decent grade, hence booking it now but as you say, failing is part of learning

Yes, if im honest I ended up really busy at work in the run up to the exam, I didnt do any real studying since I posted i was doing it

Will rebook and concentrate on my weaknesses
