I met him at a woodworking show and he signed a pic. He took time to say a few words to everyone. I also have his plans for the adirondack chair.

Don't think I've ever been that type. There's always a way, with any tools, in my book. A person's only limit is their resolve & imagination.
Main reason I buy good tools nowadays is because I can, not necessarily because I need them to achieve/complete a task.

Yes. I didn't realise you took the pics. I thought their was a thread somewhere. We have a leyland and I'd be interested to see how it gets on.

I have worked off much dodgier platforms. The uprights there are 2" x 4" nailed together to form 4" x 4" posts and the orange brackets are scaffold "pump jacks" you pump on a sort of foot thing and you can lift the scaffold up as you are working on it. Very simple, very effective.

I tend to work with what I have, in the circumstances that exist, and as safely as possible. That obviously means different things now to 'back in the day' or in extreme circumstances. Now I can (mostly) afford the tools/equipment to work as easily and safely as I can so I wouldn't do anything else. Just because the Egyptians built the pyramids with rope, timber and manpower doesn't mean I'd want to.
This is a good example. Drive sprocket replacement on a Sno Cat made awkward by the lack of a workshop and axle stands not working very well on snow. So I suspended the back end from a pulley block on the base platform. Not ideal from any point of view, and I wouldn't do it here, but if you're a couple of thousand miles from anything better you do what you can with what you have.
