Thread was steered off topic talking about gold and platinum. I was asking about epoxy.

Do you know if any grades are better than others?Try brake fluid if you have a few days for it to soften.
DOT4 gave me problems when I had my engine out of the merc, I disconnected both the brake lines and the fuel lines in the engine bay and put a bit of masking tape round them to keep out the dirt, but some fuel and brake fluid leaked out and stripped the epoxy primer I had used to paint the lines a year earlier. The engine was out for a couple of months so I'm not sure how long it took to have an effect.Do you know if any grades are better than others?
The tank lining resins sold as "Carbon fibre filled epoxy tank sealer" Should be done under the trade descriptions act as it isnt epoxy at all, It is nothing but polyester resin with some short glass filaments mixed in. The clue is that carbon fibre has black strands not clear! Also that epoxies do not use MEKP hardener! Dichloromethane will readily attack cured polyester resins, Not so sure about epoxies.Epoxy is used to line old motorcycle tanks, and you can buy "motorcycle tank stripper" which claims to remove all coatings. I had a look and appears to be just DCM.
I've never used tank sealers but I agree. I hate polyester resin, the few times I have needed fibreglass, I used epoxy instead. The tank lining resins sold as "Carbon fibre filled epoxy tank sealer" Should be done under the trade descriptions act as it isnt epoxy at all, It is nothing but polyester resin with some short glass filaments mixed in.
