I remember as a bored kid in supermarkets piercing those air fresheners, well it was asking for it with a supplied pin wasn't it

DV27 here was the weapon of choice. Drilled into the chrome bumper of the Capri. That'd on occasion loosen itself at the wingnut and drag the tip along the ground. Before that a mag mount whip on Mum's Dolomite that had a habit of detaching itself at speed. Especially when I used an offcut of Coop plastic bag to stop scratching the paint and Mum moaning.

Must dig my box of collected CBs out and see if they still work...Audioline 340, Uniace 100 and a Harrier CB somewhere I think.

When I started driving wagons it was mandatory to have "Modulator" aerials with a 6' whip mounted on both mirrors, twinned and running through a stupidly high power linear amplifier.

I had one of the illegal sets in my Mk1 Transit that had a seriously hot Essex 3 litre V6 running twin twin choke Webers hooked to a Laycock overdrive transmission feeding out to a 3.4-1 final drive that came out of a Zodiac. Well over 40 marker lights, all 5W bulbs as LED's hadn't been invented which meant the bakelite rocker switch for the lights got not just warm but HOT , as well as red lights flushed into the cab headlining. Dad reckoned it looked like a cross between something from Close Encounters and a travelling knocking shop . The whole affair was finished off with chrome airhorns on the roof and chrome plated "elephant's ear" mirrors that came off a scrap Ford D Series.

And I'm now quite misty eyed .

Modulators are still in production. I did have one of the originals but the rivets on the loading coil rotted away

Long strip of green vinyl you put across the top of your front screen on the inside to block the sun or if you were from Essex it had yours and your girlfriends name in white vinyl letters

Mate had the green strip with Boss and Slave on it

I can remember my grandad having a Renault 10, it had a 12v heater element stuck on the inside of the windscreen to help with demisting the windscreen

He did warn me it got hot but as with most 8 year olds I had to find out the hard way how hot it got

My mate John D found a set of hair curlers and a hair dryer at a car boot 15 years ago, all 12 volt, lighter socket, admittedly they did kind of work, but bloody dangerous.

Wife says we may still have them.

For the classic Citroen DS you can still get Gradulux Venetian blinds for the rear window. I tried them, back screen was just a mess of reflections
And for the mini, a steering column lowering bracket so you didn't feel you were driving a Routemaster bus
PECO exhausts, came with a certificate to say the noise level was legal

Following a mate in a Dutton Sierra, following a stranger in a beach buggy late at night somewhere around the centre of Manchester in around 1989, operated them . . . for some reason, the Police car at the other end of the road stopped the beach buggy, waving me on

I had a similar occasion with my Mini in the 70s , I had just sounded the horn and a couple of hundred yards later got pulled by a Bobbie on the beat ( anyone else remember them?) who lived in the area, he ranted how someone with Colonel Bogey air horns kept him awake and was going to give me a ticket. Fortunately it was possible to switch between tunes or all the trumpets sounding together so I took a chance and switched while demonstrating mine didn’t play Col Bogey and got away with it.

I had a Klaxon on my old Nissan van and it really used to wake people up if they were dawdling on the road.

Being into minis I was spoilt for choice with available accessories but naturally all my mods were tasteful!
Alloys, arches, spotlights, air horns, all black bumpers etc changed for chrome. Stage 1 inlet and lcb exhaust manifold, straight through 2" exhaust, happy days!

Cobra hi-back seats, spots, sumpguard, air horns and one of those locking covers over the bonnet release...

LCB and Peco "silencer", reversing spot, fog lamps, even found a "Mini Special" boot badge...
