I think a lot of people forget that flu really isn't all that common, but if you do get it, it's really quite nasty even for a healthy person. Last time I had it was years ago, and I still remember the fever induced hallucinations I had. I can only imagine its worse for older folk, and when I get into my 50s I'll probably get the flu shot too.
As opposed to man flu, which is really common and also very serious...

Think I've only had it the once. Hit 40 next year.

I had that scan and was safe. Flu jabs just announced here not heard of the Pneumonia one.

Last I heard, it was around 10 quid a shot.

Paid to the practice, not the GP themselves.

So much like any other place of work, that pays for the costs of running the place.

Or should they all work for free? Like you do . . .

Maybe we should follow the American idea . . . meaning there's an awful lot of people unable to afford any form of health care . . .

Our surgery allows two minutes for each jab! Their nurses wages are subsidised, along with other surgery expenses.
I always refuse a flu jab.
We used to stock flu jabs for the five doctor surgery literally next door. Then one year, without telling us, they bought or were given their own. We then stopped stocking them completely. Every year after that, the surgery would jab everyone that came through the door. When they inevitably ran out, they would come crawling to us. They should have thought of that before they stiffed us.

I got fed up telling people who walked into our shop that they didn't have flu. Instead I flogged them a Day-Nurse, a Night-Nurse, some ibuprofen, a Vicks inhaler and some Kleenex balm tissues.
'I've got this cough' and then they'd cough right in your face.

The wanted me to offer that service. I was flat out, all day every day with prescriptions. And then they expected me to take time away from dispensing to inject someone. Not so likely. I don't touch people. I would want a chaperone for my own safety, so that is two staff down for however long it takes. And to crown it all, I wouldn't get any extra money for doing it.
No wonder when I handed in my notice, they paid me three months notice and I was gone in two days.

Flu jab is a (very) educated guess as to which strains are going to be around this flu season - they have to decide in advance when they get the vaccine manufactured. So no “they” don’t always get it right but, generally they do - if you don’t want the jab don’t have it but I think to spread misinformation around is not helpful.

I had to do a lot of checking a few years ago, into if I could have certain jabs for "Flu".
I have had serious chest infections, so some I can not have.
It was dull reading, but finding out how practise who provide a service to the NHS are funded was eye opening.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day the law of averages means it must have helped someone!

Even at 40% effective (I think it’s generally running at between 40-60% efficacy, obviously some years better and some worse) means it’s probably saved hundreds if not many thousands of lives over the years, and for those that do still contract it they will likely have milder symptoms than they otherwise would have done.

Figures are from NHS and from April 2020 to March 2021. They have accounts and perhaps more should read them and uncover some of the money makers they have.

Of course they are paid to the practice as its another source of income for them, never said the GP got them as nurses generally give the jabs.

How are you suggesting they are working for free? this makes no sense as the NHS pays for the surgery and doctors and other staff wages, they are merely finding other forms of income to supplement the practice income in much the same way they work privately to supplement their own income.

Guidance suggests it is just over £10 per shot and guidance is merely that; guidance, the amount the NHS pays varies and in low uptake areas it is over £30 per shot.

Perhaps you should read the doctors accounts which are publicly accessible online, ours make interesting reading.

You are the on seemingly suggesting they ought to work for free by moaning about what they get paid.

You were the one to mention that they get paid a figure I can't find any of them getting paid, provide some sums to prove if they can somehow work continuously they will earn gazillions a week . . . ?

Me - you couldn't pay me enough to deal with the useless moaning whinging (No offence ) lying ***** that make up the general public - I did it once in a retail capacity a long time ago. Good luck to those who negotiate a good renumeration to put up with it.

I will continue to enjoy the excellent service I feel my local practice and hospital and also my mum's practice and local hospitals provide (having had rather more experience of hers the last couple of years than I hope to have as they dealt with her problems) and considering the figures you published on here, feel I am getting a well above average return on the payments made!

A friend of mine is recovering from surgery for one. Unfortunately where it was he couldn’t be fitted with a stent, so had a very major op. The expected recovery time is about 6 months he was told, but he would be dead without it.

Nobody is suggesting or claiming they are working for free, our doctors accounts for last year show the five managing partners were paid £84,000 each in salary by the NHS and their final salary for 2020 was £205, 000 which shows how much profit our doctors surgery is making, its a business.

Where do you find the accounts? All they are legally required to publish on their website is the mean salary of the GPs which is all I can find on the practices I've tried at random.

Can you link to where the accounts are please? I'd be interested to know

We have a few gp`s in our client base, they seem to live very well off what they earn.
