Loads come to mind. Silver flower holders, parrafin heaters that you left under your car to stop the engine freezing, gadgets that dispensed a cigarette from a stored stack. Bit more recent, 8track stereos.
Built in hydraulic jacks at all corners. Drove both a Rover and an MG with those. Useful in the days when tyres went flat often.
Still, I started driving(legally..) in a A40 Farina. The indicaters where on a twist each way timer and seat belts had not been thought of.
Then there were little heaters to demist the screen.. Needed when the manfacturer hadn't thought too much about that.. Oh, windscreen washer kits with bits of tube and a plastic bottle hung off the steering , that you squeezed with your knees to try and get the clag off the screen. My brother's first was a BMW Isetta. No screen washer, so he used to follow buses into puddles, so the spray helped the wipers. Or, carry a plastic bottle to squeeze out of the side window across the screen. BMW seem to have come on a bit since then.

A clip on parking light that stayed on all night..used to hook them over your side window and crocodile clips on the battery...And those poxy head rests that just clipped over your seats and we thought they looked so cool in the 70,s

Another one has come to mind that i used to use- those cassette tapes with the aux lead so you could plug in your mp3 to the tape deck before getting round to upgrading the head unit and getting a big **Language** off sub woofer in the boot

I can remember the parrafin heaters, my mother will still have them. Ariels that stuck to the windscreen

no its one thing I havn't forgotten about, had a couple of unused ones for 20 years and I can still find them

how about earthing straps that attached to bumpers, just in case you were hit by lightening

What was the "water injection system" called where you drilled and tapped into the manifold?

My elderly neighbour had a circulatory heater plumbed in that he had on a timer. It'd come on a bit before he left for work at silly o'clock on winter mornings and warm the block / oil.

I remember there was a combination spotlight / mirror on my Dad's 1956 Chevy Cameo pickup truck, and also a utility light under the hood (bonnet) which was incorporated into a small cable reel that fit into a slotted holder on the inside of the driver side fender. The glass lens was cone shaped with one half clear and the other half red, for if you had to change a tire at night by the side of the road; 1950's health and safety . There was enough cable length to reach and light up any place on or under the vehicle.

Those things you used to stick to the back window, like a flat lens thing that showed how close you were to the car behind when reversing, more common on mini busses.

And the stick onto the headlight things when taking your car onto the continent.

I remember a small possibly UV lamp that was placed in front of the driver and turned on to supposedly stop the driver from being dazzled by on coming headlights when driving at night.
