I need a piece of tube to make a new tailboard for my Ifor Williams trailer, but am struggling with the tube size that they’ve used, and I need to match for the bushes to fit. The current one is 27mm ID, 4mm thick, but I can’t find this online anywhere, what am I missing please?

Is it seamless?if so you’ll have to bore from solid,providing it’s not too long,if it is maybe several short pieces,closest chs(welded),is 27.7bore.

Seamless would be a bit OTT for a little trailer!

The trailer has a ramp at the moment but it kills my fuel consumption, particularly on the motorway to and from the UK, so I’m making a tailgate to match the height of the sides, much more fun than giving Ifor £100.00+ For one

I’m coming to the UK Wednesday for the first time in over a year, my eldest son is already moaning about the number of parcels sat there for me. I do try and buy as much as possible here, things like welding rods are twice the price here that I can get them for in the UK, I’m all for supporting local business but there are limits.

Here's what my local place has available.

Tube is measured on the outside diameter and pipe is measured by the bore size so have you got the correct thing.

If you have a tube of 30mm O/D with a 3mm wall it will have a bore of 24mm.

If you get pipe of 30mm it will have a 30mm bore and if the wall thickness of 3mm it will have an O?D of 36mm.

Hope this makes sense.

Yes, I got that much, but I’m trying to get to what Ifor Williams used when making the trailer, as I’ll be using their bushes for the new tailgate, I think @8ob nailed it, my mental arithmetic couldn’t see it!

Witney Steel are cutting me a piece of 33.7mm circular hollow section, 3mm wall, so the bushes should fit. It’s only a little tailgate rather than the ramp I currently have, so no weight to carry, hopefully it’s will be fine. Will post some photos when I get back. Here next week and get it made.

Ahh, closest I got is 33.7 x 2.9.
