I needs crimps

I'm doing more and more panel work and really need a decent set of insulated crimps.

Ideally I'd go PIDG but account wouldn't understand.



So on that note does anyone have experience with rspro crimps?

The RS pro crimping tools seem ok they appear to be Partex rebranded so you may get a better deal direct.

I’m not sure what you mean by panel work but typically bootlace ferrules are used, especially for the low current control wiring, so you might want a bundle of that aswell (got a cheap set on Amazon that was actually pretty good and I combined it with another 2 sets to get this

Yup have boot laces, need spades and rings for some of the machines we service

The only thing I found annoying about the crimp tool included in that set was you could only crimp from one side, the picture seems to show a different tool that you can crimp from both sides which is easier especially in awkward places…

RS crimp connectors are good value and reliable, their tools less so.

i prefer the knipex 97 52 35 pliers

Knipex crimper and related jaws
Cembre ,3M , Legrand,BM, or whatever other good quality terminals.

I'd suggest a nice wire stripper and zip ties pilers

Ps I don't like preinsulated terminals , I do prefer to apply their proper insulator on ,or heat shrink tube on them .
Obviously the ferrules have to have the insulation already on

Another vote for Cembre for ratchet crimpers, you sometimes find them rebranded as Newlec amongst others

Do you need certified and calibrated crimpers to meet spec or do you just need decent quality general use crimpers?

I've had a set of knipex mole-grip style crimpers for insulated terminals for a few years now and I have no complaints about them.

Just good reliable,
though I will be buying certified copper tube crimps and In cal. crimper which I will have calibrated

I mostly have knipex stuff. However I also have one of these and of load of dies

Pressmaster product - MCT FRAME

MCT FRAME is a crimping tool frame for mobile tool die sets.

Most of the dies are reasonably priced.
Great for a toolbox as lots of crimp tools gets bulky.

Only disadvantage is if you needed to keep swapping dies around for the same job.

They do a few starter kits that work out a bit cheaper.

I’ve used RS pro crimps for years, never had a problem. They’re not bargain basement so while I’m sure others like cembre might be “better” I’m really not sure how you could quantify that?

I’ve certainly not known of any failures. I quite rate their tools as well, I’ve got a set of old water pump pliers (from before they were re branded RS pro) and they have been excellent.

That's the style of crimper I use , I have to buy different dies for them but they work well for my needs .
