This is what it was printing last night.



That unsupported bed cable seemed the best starting point. That print needed a tad of knife & file work to tidy it up, (the inside of the upper cable tie guide sagged a tad), but I'm quite happy with its first ever print.

I can see I have a learning curve in front of me though.

Cura will show you overhangs that need support if you enable that in the config.
The red areas are unsupported geometry. As you can see not the whole hole feature is red and thats based on the slope. Lots of settings in the support section to control this.

In settings, the display overhang and Auto drop are useful

Pretty sure all of the Ender models are supported on Cura, certainly the Ender 5 is, should be just a case of downloading the latest version, select your printer and slice

Thanks for that - I was thinking I would download Cura to try it out, but obviously I don’t need to If they are the same. My software was on the usb stick that came with the machine (Ender 3 pro), along with all the build instructions and sample files.
Its had a lot of use in the last couple of weeks as I’m building a laser cutter - printing clips, mounting blocks for micro switches and pcb’s etc. Very useful.
A question - I use Fusion360 for all the design work. Has anyone tried generating the g-code successfully within Fusion? The only time I tried it, the code tried to send the print head off the top of the Z screw at the end of the print. Since then I’ve just exported my design as an stl file and put it into the slicer to get the g code.

Ah, the creality slicer on my stick was very outdated I had to go to the creality website for the newer version. (Mind you the original version on the stick easily printed Collada DAE files as produced by Sketchup 14 so for THAT it's very useful - if you use sketchup it'll allow you to draw and print models very easily). If you download the newer creality slicer it'll over-write the original old one off the stick and then it doesn't like the DAE files so much.

For the very latest version of cura go to the Ultimaker Cura site.

I printed this yesterday. Drew it in fusion and sliced in Cura.



It's for this fully working air con unit I got from work but without the exhaust tube.

Be careful using gcode from other sources.
It must be generated for exactly the same machine and set-up, like nozzle size and material. Better get the 3D data and slice it yourself.

Edit: the project file is the best .3MF, then you get 3D plus all settings from the slicer. Then just change what's needed to fit your set-up and slice.

I prefer the aluminium heatsink cases like this, cost about a tenner and available from lots of places.

If your adding a daughterboard like a PoE hat then possible not the best option but for Octoprint they are fine. It also means you can hang them off a DIN rail like this, and replace the annoying wall warts with a single 10A Meanwell PSU for 4 x pi4, possible more.

The two rpi4 on the left have 2.5" SSD attached. The PSU is attached to the UPS on the left. There is another pi below that has a one-wire temp probe hat on it, a pi3b I believe, its in a crappy plastic case, that should fit on the rail too soon. I only moved the two rpi4 on the right on to the din rail yesterday.

What am I doing with all these you may ask? Tinkering is the answer. I have pi-hole running on a couple of them, this is a DNS blocker so excludes ads, trackers etc. I also run nagios, Zabbix and a few other network management tools. The ones with SSD are for me to play with virtualisation and containers as I'm doing more of it at work and being a manager get little time to play with the tech.
