just went on the site and put my old van number in to see mot details . it failed after i traded it in on numerous items of corosion and brake parts fail got rid just in time . it gives the mileage details . thats strange the milometer packed in when id done 95 thousand miles and roughly had another 10 thou on when i sold it its now done 115 thou so they must be just guessing whoever tests it for the last 3 years

i couldnt give a toss i sold it. im not complaining .just stating a point that it would have cost money to keep it on the road and it wasnt worth spending on does that answer the question

I wish Northern Ireland had MOT history check. Great for checking how it was looked after and if mileage tallies up.

Couple of my cars had had recorded mileages that have leapt up considerably one year, then gone backwards a similarly considerable amount the next . . . my MOT tester occasionally forgets to wear his reading glasses when recording the odometer reading . . .

I looked on Askmid at a car that picks a couple of youths up on the corner of our street. According to the database it is not insured and has not been taxed since April. It is tested till next January though. Is it wrong or how do they keep getting away with it ?

Cars "in trade" don't show up.
The short term insurance does not either.
Or they could just be running it illegally.
Police won't bother to do much but the anonymous hotline for untaxed cars is pretty effective...

He's been driving it about for months and lives local, I don't think the trade he is in has anything to do with motors

I think it is a marvellous system. I have reported a few untaxed cars that have been dumped outside my place. They usually get lifted within a couple of days.

A workmate in the 70's had a Talbot with an odometer that would increment up to 39,999 then click over to 39,000 and start again.

No really. He really didn't use his reading glasses and managed to add 20,000 to one one year . . . and lose most of it when he read it correctly the next year . . .

As its on limited mileage insurance, it could have got a little interesting trying to explain . . .

I built a Caterham in 2001 (still got it) - digital odometer . . . noticed a week or two after registering it that it didn't seem to be gaining miles beyond 2000 and something . . . made a note of mileage before a drive . . . and after . . . switched off, and then back on . . . back to the original mileage . ..

One new speedo under warranty and it recorded properly . . .

I forget how many PCs I had to test. Had just gone self employed at the time and first job was testing all my old Co's PCs.
