I've heard people talk in jest about using the dishwasher as a parts washer while the missus was out. How practical a proposition is that? The new property I'm moving to has all new white goods so I'll have a surplus dishwasher that works fine but probably has little or no second hand value.

They work well, don't use the dishwasher tablets on aluminium engine parts as the alkaline solution attacks the ali.
If you are using it solely for a parts washer you could just fill it with parts washer solution like the stuff you get in machine mart and get a 25 litre drum for it to drain into.
P.s, I dont jest about it, I used to use the house one regularly, just throw a cleaning solution through the machine after I used it.

i presume uve just painted them bits and now stove enameling them WHAT HEAT SETTING U GOT THEM ONUse the dishwash never

My Pa used it to clean the cylinder head off his leaky old triumph. He was almost killed by my mum. Did any of us laugh? Noooooooo
But when years back he had a flymo for christmas, the stupid old fool tried it out in the house, another near death experience as he tore the rug to bits. Did we laugh? maybe a tiny bit.
This trait for mind boggling imbecility seems hereditary on the male side of my family.

Interesting, appreciate you dnt remember the details but do you remember if it was it a normal dishwasher just modified heath robinson?
Marty, Ive got a shed dishwasher... Or at least I will have once again when Ive got a shed with a floor...
When they break, you can turn them into little blasting cabinets without too much work

That was my fault the inside looking like that
.It's not a problem, as the cooker has a nuke button, press once and 3 hours later the inside looks brand new

I don't know if they are the same where you are.
The ones here have a heating element that can be used to heat whatever fluid you have cycling through.
As I remember it when it finished it's wash cycle the hot greasy diesel fairly well reeked.

Yeh I have an old tray from a diswasher screwed on the wall in my workshop, use it for hanging up screwdrivers etc
Might plumb it into the 305L drum that runs the parts washer and sit it next door, that way the drum can be the settlement tank. Use the parts washer for a quick scrape, and the dishwasher for extended horrible lazyness removal...
May have to drag the lot outside for the first couple of washes in case something ignites
