But it would of been better if Mr Branson has spent more time getting his other interest up to speed, like his multi media, his airline and other shwat are famous for giving poor customer service.

I know its a "major milestone" but I cant really see the point apart from lots of rich people getting a good jolly, in this day and age its not very green/carbon neutral/grunta thunderthighs/save the kitten (delete as appropriate)

I can think of much better things to spend the dosh on ranging from crack whores to providing clean drinking water to millions.
It just seems a bit pointless. He's bloody good at sniffing out and pocketing government grants and subsidies, pity he isn't as good at selecting worthy challenges.

I had an idle and fairly novice read around this a few years back. Is it actually possible to 'fly' into space? In all the discussion i looked at most conceded you needed a rocket. Google suggests you need to read mach 33 so mach 5 is nowhere near!

Mach 5 is just when it is air breathing. It then starts using liquid oxygen and hydrogen like a normal rocket - same engine so a very clever design.
SR71 was under Mach 3 and the U2 flew to about 80,000 feet. The Sabre engine will reach almost 100,000 feet breathing just air. It will reach proper orbits when being used in rocket mode.

Yes, that is what it uses. The British car that was intending to go supersonic (but has run out of money) also had a hybrid engine using nitrous oxide, made by the Norwegian company Nammo.Nitrous Oxide is laughing gas ross

Why did Richard Branson sue the NHS?
Branson's company Virgin Care sued the NHS after it lost out on an £82million contract to provide children's health services in Surrey in 2016.The company cited concerns over "serious flaws" in the way the contract was awarded.
The NHS settled the legal dispute in November 2017 with an out of court settlement for an undisclosed sum.
NHS Surrey Downs clinical commissioning group (CCG) initially disclosed that its liability in the case was £328,000 in its October public finance papers, the Health Service Journal reported at the time.
Virgin Care’s co-founder, Dr Vivienne McVey, said the money from the NHS settlement went into developing services for patients.
“Virgin Care has never made a profit and the Virgin Group has actually invested more than £75 million across the UK in people and technology, supporting doctors and nurses in their jobs and significantly reducing waiting lists,” she said.
Richard has publicly pledged that when it does make a profit, all profits and dividends (over and above his investment) will go back into helping NHS patients.

How do you come to know so much about Branson? Any interests that you want to declare? He's made a huge amount of money by "one means or another"! Virgin Galactic is a self-indulgence of cosmic proportions and has no purpose other than joy rides for the very rich. I suspect it will not last very long.
