Ive used a lot of strings, great to get you home and is what I keep with the bikes. I have pushed the limits of a cbr6 with them in the rear, but I really dont like having in the front for any longer than needed.
However they dont last as a permanent repair and Ive had several slow leaks and sudden deflations on the bikes after about a month. Ive had a couple last a year or more, and Ive ran rear tyres bald with them.
Dont be lazy, pull the tyre off and fit a proper pull through patch from the inside within a week or two.
As for tools mentioned above, the buffing removes the protective synthetic rubber coating, good idea to coat it with the proper sealer.
