Any tyre fitters around?

Ive used a lot of strings, great to get you home and is what I keep with the bikes. I have pushed the limits of a cbr6 with them in the rear, but I really dont like having in the front for any longer than needed.
However they dont last as a permanent repair and Ive had several slow leaks and sudden deflations on the bikes after about a month. Ive had a couple last a year or more, and Ive ran rear tyres bald with them.
Dont be lazy, pull the tyre off and fit a proper pull through patch from the inside within a week or two.

As for tools mentioned above, the buffing removes the protective synthetic rubber coating, good idea to coat it with the proper sealer.

Horses for courses. Those mushroom type plugs that go from inside out are for permanent repair on road tyres. By the time you have faffed about getting the inside of the tyre smooth enough for one to stick, you could have put a tube in and be fairly sure it is fixed, I've tried 'em on road tyres and not had 100% success. However with the type that go in from the outside. which are illegal on high speed road tyres, I rarely have had a failure when fitting them to agricultural stuff. Plus no removing the tyre, just gunge round the hole, stick the plug in and blow it up. Did one this afternoon 5min finished.

a lot of good information above, thanks all.... have ordered some of those mushroom type, will give them a go on a couple of scrap tyres I have to practice on first.

as I said it's for low speed non road tyres, so have plenty options to try, in an case I won't be doing road tyres will leave that to the garages etc, plenty of oithers who can do that in the area

useless on the road in cars mate had some in and it made the car shudder at high speed unbalanced the tire and the garage wont fix a puncture if u have used it .not disputing your use of it on your application but no good on the road in cars

Bugger! I was gonna get some of that goop for my wheelbarrow tyre but I don't want any vibration thorough the handles at the speeds I work at.
