That was last night and is a holiday in Finland (and Sweden too I guess), biggest holiday after Christmas. We celebreated it in traditional style. Which involves going to the summer cottage for thoser which have one. And in Finland it's common enough almost everyone has a place to go via a close relative where they then gather. This is my parent's place, they've spent the last 20 years working on the place, renovating inside and out, working on the yard and so on. It's quite modern with electricity now, when we got it it had nothing of the sort, though no water so we have to carry that, has a rain water collection system though which is good enough for stuff like washing and doing the dishes.
It's actually out on a peninsula so there's sea on several sides
We tore down the sauna last year however... The water is the baltic sea, it looks like it's closed in and not the open sea, but this is because it's an archipelago so there are loads of islands and islets around the coast. Many might have a summer cottage on them as well.
Typical finnish midsummer food, various grilled meats, fish and new potatoes (from our own land)
The sauce is a local speciality, it's a cold sauce. Whole cream, salt, pepper, chives. Combine in the morning and let sit in a fridge until dinnertime. I recommend trying it.
